Lighten Up, new rules for humanity :)

these aren't exactly new or written but they sure don't seem to be followed nowadays.

[Warning: Some strong opinions possible]

I've watched something happen in this country, heck this world lately. People need to relax! I watch every day people arguing and debating over things that may never change but swear they are right. I watch people sue companies for things that are their fault. I see people running around trying to show that they know what's best for everyone else when half the time they don't have their own lives together. Racism, Sexism, and people just generally thinking their better than everyone else.

This is in no way an attack on anyone specifically here, and yet it is a commentary on all of us. Yes that includes me. What I am talking about is a radical change I think this planet needs to make before it dies off from war and poverty.

So here are a few rules I would change if I were somehow elevated to be the emotional/spiritual ruler of Earth. I am sure we are all guilty of breaking some of the unprecedented but neccessary rules. I know I am.

1. Pay atention to others. Really pay atention. It's amazing what we learn when we really listen to the other person instead of just waiting for our turn to talk.

2. If someone is having a bad day and they come to you to vent, let them vent and don't always try to fix things. Sometimes all they need is an ear.

3. Conversely, if you are having a problem and vent i out successfully, don't brood for days or weeks.

4. Don't pretend that you know what's best for someone else. 9 times out of 10 there is somehting there you don't see.

5. Following that rule, don't ask for advice if you don't want to hear an answer. You ever watch someone who asks for advice then doesn't really want it? Ugh that's annoying.

6. Again following the last rule, if someone really wants your advice, be tactful. Don't pretend like your advice is automatically the right one and don't push the issue once it's out there.

7. Quit whining when it's unnecessary. Stuff happens and it doesn't always need hours and days of deliberation. Take a step back and look from a fresh new angle instead of letting the debate go stale.

Go for it but I want to really think about what's good for humanity as a whole. Have fun, take it easy, and join the revolution of the pleasant people that want to take over the world and make it easier to live in.

8. Remember that you are no more important than the person who is standing/sitting/right next to. Prince or pauper, Doctor or plumber, and even those telemarketers, each one is a human being with the same needs as you.

I disagree with rule 8. There are people that are more important than other people at least as far as the roles they play in society. If we knew we could only save a million people, who would you want to save? Doctors, scientists, or bums?

9. Realize that nothing is permanent. At any time you are allowed to change the outcome of something. The only certainty in life is death so live each day knowing that if you don't like what you are dealt, then work to change it.

all he said was he has the same needs as the doctor and therefore deserves the same rights. I don't really want this to get into debate though. That is my request not a squelching from any mod or admin...this thread is set up as a light hearted set of rules we thought we could live by, nothing more. We all have freedom of speech and I welcome any ideas folks have but I am requesting it stay as just that, ideas. No hard feelings at all.

im gonna throw out a word here: Pluralism

"a state of society in which members of diverse ethnic, racial, religious, or social groups maintain an autonomous participation in and development of their traditional culture or special interest within the confines of a common civilization " (Merriam Webster's dictionary definition of Pluralism, def. 4a.)

I think that your rules are a nice way of bringing this beautiful form of life into being, which Hospers describes in his article debating Relativisim and Absolutism. While he does not use the word, but substitutes it with Absolutism, he whole-heartedly is bringing in the idea of Pluralsim, or to share and learn from one another, in order to better the whole.
