Well remember Shino, according to Nintendo the DS technically is not supposed to replace the Gameboy. They're supposed to exist side by side, which is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. I am in no way considering "upgrading". I just picked up a new GBA SP Friday as a matter of fact (replacing my old GBA SP which I handed down to my GF's son). Like they state, it'll probably be cosmetic anyway. There's very little space to go with the SP now that the DS is out. What can you add?
If they bring out another retro or game specific model I'll be pissed tho. I couldn't get an NES SP so I had to settle for a black one. If they bring out some cool Pokemon or Kirby model I'll be mad. Tho the Kirby one would probably be pink anyway, right? Ewwww.... |

but that's my point... how many of the same system can you bring out.
What are they going to do to it this time... just move on and focus on what you currently have.
but then again, I guess their gimmicks do make them money. |

actually, a lot of people stil aren't buying the DS because of its price. yeah $149 is a great price for what you're getting but from my video game sales experience in retail. I've still seen many more GBAs sold since the release of the DS. Most adults dont even really know about the DS yet, plus the GBA game sales doubled over the holidays compared to last year.
And with this you'll see that the "old" GBA SP will be dropped down to a mere $50, it'll sell even more in my opinion.
Yes, making DS and GBA side-by-side as two different entities makes no sense, especially sense the DS plays GBA games. The DS is by no means not in the GB family but its still linked to it bc if they had it where the DS had no backwards compatibility with GBA games, it would of flunked out the market bc of the poor market of actual DS games |

I don't care how much they say it, the DS is the new Gameboy, let's face it. Anyways, as to this new GB coming out for Xmas, this is insane. When will these developers calm down and let us enjoy a system for all it's worth. Do you know why this is happening? All those overeager fanboys who can't be satisfied. I, for one, would be happy with my GBA (original) for the next three years. I don't want an SP or a DS or w/e this next one is going to be. I want my GBA. |

Well lots of developers do... but they aren't developing for Nintendo
Personally, unless it's an entirly new system I can't see it selling very well.
I mean if they price it $100, well for $50 I get the DS, for $50 less I get an SP.
And I will never understand why they saythe DS is not a replacement for the GBA. You made it play the games. My only reason to keep the SP is to play old GB games. |

Well if you look at it, Playstation came out with PS1 and then the slimmer PS2. Trying to make the buck stretch as far as they can. If they came out with some kind of anniversary release of top-loading Nintendo's, how many of us would go after it?
What it may seem like is Nintendo lacks the foresight to deliver quality instead of quantity and beat everyone else to the next platform punch. ~cough~ N64 ~cough~ |

Well considering the DS has no link (cable) ability thereby "enabling" it to play all GBA games in 1P mode, it becomes the inefficient as a replacement or upsgrade. The touch screen removes it from being a "sequel" machine also in that the feature is useless using GB games. Then add in the current library of purely DS games and it's clear that Nin is using this system as...ta da!...a stepping stone to their next system. I can guarantee the touch feature will be incorporated into the standard controller for the "Revolution" or whatever it'll be called.
If it's not then the DS is a total waste of money and time.
As for the multiple GBs with nothing but cosmetic changes (mostly), Nin knows what people want (to buy) so believe that enough of us will buy it. I went from GBC to GBA when my GBC broke. I went from GBA to GBA SP when my GBA got stolen. My needs are simply of need, not want...for now. Plus, only a new Pokemon game would make me buy a new Nin system and Pokemon Dash is 99 44/100% crap.
So where's the Pokemon mmorpg, Nintendo? That would sell the DS. Quote me on that.
Sega really needs to come back to consoles. Gaming needs them. sniff |
