This has less to do with respect for the country and more to do with respect for your teacher.

HS kids in many cases don't have any respect for their teachers. The kid staying in his chair proves that, the kid walking out proves that.

There wasn't really any violence, he just took his chair. I think there are better ways to handle it, but there is only so much a person can take.

The problem -I- have with this is that the teacher had no right to do what he did, whatsoever. He can -not- force the student to stand for the national anthem, just as you can not force a student to stand for the pledge of allegiance. As long as the student is not doing anything to detract from it, he does not have to participate. At least, that is my understanding of the situation.

There are much better ways to get students to listen to you. Assigning them extra homework, for instance, or detentions. All of which -are- sanctioned.

I do my pledge of allegiance to my country not to the president. I do it for the freedoms I'm blessed with. Whether or not I like the president in office has nothin to do with it ^^ But that's just me.

I'm all for free speech though. If I was the teacher I would actually probably offer the whole class extra credit or even just make a regular assignment in what the pledge of allegiance means to them. In all honesty though I think the Pledge of Allegiance would be more meaningful if it was done maybe once a week instead of every day. At school everyone's like "blah blah liberty...uhhhh"

Actually nothing can be solved with any finality involving violence.
Violence, begets either hate, and or fear. And both will lead to retaliation.

(Now I know we can't debate politically anymore but I need to say my peace on this, so people know where I am coming from)

Which is one of the reasons I really don’t like America. As the current presiding super power in the world America has the role of leader whether we like it or not. And well to put it simply, America sucks at this job. Instead of actively taking the role as a leader of the peace, we are a leader of war. We instill our will on the world by force, when what we really need is just an endless amount of compromises. Yeah world peace is a bit idealistic, but in a day and age where more and more countries are obtaining the means to annihilate the human race, we are running out of time, and options. We will either obtain world peace or destroy ourselves.

This is also the reason I despise the armed forces, now don’t misunderstand me, I DO NOT despise members of the armed forces. They do a necessary job and I respect that. It is a necessary evil so to speak. However no matter how hard you try you could not convince me that the armed forces are a noble profession. It is being trained to kill, plain and simple. Be it directly as infantry, or indirectly as logistical support. Its still all supports the same war machine which at its core has no other purpose but to kill.
That is why I will never join the military, ever.

Just had to get that off my chest, so you know I don’t hate America cause it’s trendy or something lol. If you want to discuse this with me, IM me.

Ok so you hate it, thats understandable. But can you respect it for the fact that you can say this and know that you won't get reprecussions for it? It's hard for people who think otherwise to swallow their pride and take a blow like that, because of said rights.

IM, lest you bring the wrath of MOD upon us.
But to answer your questions, yes I do respect the original vision and rights of America, Just not its manifestation
