But while Universal and Fox's offer is now the only game in town, Microsoft is still unsure if it wants to play ball. Variety and the Times say the agreement is held up on two fronts. First, the two studios requested that Microsoft relinquish its demands and that the Halo movie strictly follow a Bungie-penned "bible," which would ensure that it would not deviate from the Halo mythos or conflict with "sequels" to the game (i.e. Halo 3).

Thats a bad idea.... if they "deviate from the Halo mythos" they will have millions of angry people dressed as spartans, with homemade battle rifles, and plasma rifles knocking down the doors to those studios.... im ashamed to say i will be one of those people...

anyway, i think it is a bad idea overall... dont get me wrong, i think Halo would make an increadible movie, and would love to see one myself, but it would take too much time and money and effort for anyone to make it as good as it should be. I know the capitalist in hollywood would screw the everloving crap out of my favorite game, because they dont care enough about it. im gonna keep tabs on this and update it when i find out more. and personaly, i wouldent even consider Variety and the Times because they dont want rules that force them into keeping to the story. if they would do it good, then they wouldent have a problem with doing it right.

then again, im just a random guy obsed with a game...

Video game movies for the most part sadly are a bad idea. *coughs* Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat 2. *coughs* Why? Because they got Van Dam to play Gulie or because they decided to use claymation in the final fight. These are only part of the reason why these movies suck. The main reason is they try to change too much. It's almost like Hollywood looks at the game and says " Ok this is why this game was such a hit." Then they take that part and throw it out and say "We can make something so much better." Ahhhhh NO! You can’t! Hollywood please stay out of my games unless you think we can stick to the plot of said game. If not, then just stop. Stop now. For example, I'd like to see a Legend of Zelda movie but I know they would blow that one. I am sure the idea has been thrown out but after watching Super Mario Bros. I am sure the Nintendo threw it right back with vengeance.

Why can't games make good movies,

yea, im agreeing. whole heartedly.

But out of all games to make videogames out of, i think if you get the good fellows at bungie and microsoft to help and possibly direct the movie, it could work, since the game is heavily based on a great storyline, and since the weaponry is limited to two weapons, we can actually see master chief decide which weapons he takes, and add more plot to the movie. Unfortunately, the thing that makes Halo so great, as the makers at bungie put it, is the fact that Halo gives you a short burst of adrenaline and excitement for about 30 seconds, and can replicate that over and over with every fight.

One can make a movie out of a game, and this makes you lose this initial ability. This is why it is much more successful to make games out of movies, since you can add that bit, along with the ability to have a creative license as to what the main character really does in the fights.

But i think it is possible, provided the right people make it.

What gets me is how quickly everyone dropped out when the words "stick to the storyline" were mentioned. Even Universal and Fox are still trying to get that "minor" detail out of play. Why? Anyone? Can someone please tell me what's wrong with sticking to a good storyline?

thats because it was a cliff-hanger. it made alot of people angry that they were going to have to buy a 3rd game to get the story. all in all i would say that its a good story. if they were to make a movie, it would be cool to do a movie verision of the book, the fall of reach. I can understand declining the movie, because they dont want to be forced into a corner, But like I said earlier, if you cared about it and not the money, you wouldn't have a problem staying in that corner. then again if you do it right, and make it realy good, its posible that all the halo players will see it atleast once, and thats a hell of alot of people. which means a hell of a big gross at the box office.
