Wasn't sure what forum to put this in, so I put it here. Earlier today at school, while sitting outside, a ladybug landed on my arm and bagan to walk around. Now, I look at this bug meandering about on my arm, see this large insectoid head that reminds me vaguely of horror movies and think, its going to bite me, which I then say. Both Shandriz and Antinua laugh at me and I am told that ladybugs do not bite. However, a few seconds later I feel a slight pain in my hand, right where the bug is, then it flies off.
Now, Shandriz is convinced that I am delusional, for she refuses to believe that it bit me. I was just wondering some other peoples opinions on this. If enough of you are convinced I am crazy I will commit myself to the local Dear Doot asylum. |

Here's an Exerpt from an Article I found.
Quote: | In an attempt to sell "natural pest control", certain
companies around the country have been importing
lady bugs from other parts of the world and selling
them. These lady bugs have been marketed as being
more aggressive and hearty than our own indigenous
species. One feature of their biology, however, is
that they do not die each winter. They hibernate.
Unlike our own native species, these imports like
to over winter on mountainsides, rocks and caves.
Such environments are readily available in certain
parts of our country, but since these lady bugs
are being released in areas where such terrain
does not exist they are taking advantage of the
next best thing - our homes!
I am not sure how bad of a problem this
is, but we have received reports from the Northwest,
the Southeast and the Southwest. What is the problem?
Although they do not pose economic problems, these
durable lady bugs "flock" to homes with certain
conditions. They seem to be seeking a certain
temperature as well as a good amount of cracks and
crevices. Homes with cedar shakes or other wood siding
seem to be more vulnerable. Once they start to congregate
in the cracks and crevices of these homes, more
will come. I have seen massive "balls" of them
in attics where they are mating and amassing.
This hibernating will last throughout the winter
and then they will emerge in the following
spring. The main problem is that not all of them
are able to get to the hibernating areas. Most
of the complaints involve massive numbers
of these lady bugs finding their way into living
areas. They swarm around lights, TV's, windows and
ceilings. They are seeking a good crack or
crevice to crawl into and remain during the colder
time of the year. Though they don't sting,
we have had many reports from people who have
ladybug bites. This seems to happen in most cases
because they are handling some of them. However,
large populations which are allowed to accumulate
in the home will lead to more and more contact
with the people who live there. Ultimately this
contact will lead to bites as the ladybugs are
doing what they naturally do; forage for food.
Since food is scarce during the time of year that
they come inside it is more common for people to
get bit at this time. During the summer months
they have plenty to eat and consequently don't
randomly bite in an effort to find food. |
So Lady Bugs DO bite but it's because they are foreign Lady Bugs looking for food. Not our nifty "Die in the Winter" Ladybugs of yester-year. |

I wouldn't put it past them....they're all shifty and such, trying to lead us into a false sense of security...that they're "nice" and "cute". They're probably surmounting their assault on humanity as we speak...and can you blame them? Who the hell named them "ladybugs" anyway? I bet the males of the species don't take too kindly to that... |

Oh for heaven's sake! The Ladybug didn't bite him! He psyched himself into thinking it did! Maybe they do bite, on occasion, but this was -not- the case this afternoon. There is no reason I can think of that it would have, given the area we were in and the fact there isn't a significant lack of food there, which is mentioned as the reason that ladybugs -do- bite. |

Yeah but maybe the ladybug was like a mountain lion and one year it bit someone and now it has a taste for man-flesh!
So now it flutters around biting people to sate it's bloodlust. |

It didn't draw blood or anything, just felt a lot like an ant bite, minus the irritating poisonous itching and such. |
