Pretty much, as the $20 price tag pretty much helped out in the decision over Madden or to get both games. I find it funny that many who bought Madden returned it within in a week to trade it in saying that ESPN was the better game. |

This is all just another part of the EA Takeover. They now own everything related to NFL football so don't think they aren't busy working on similar deals for the NBA, NHL, MLB, and any other pro sports league excluding the UFC. Curiously enough in this month's PSM there's a sidebar or something where someone notes that since the WWE is suing THQ/Jakks Pacific they're hoping EA gets the license. See a pattern?
Anyway, look at another "little" deal EA did recently. They bought Criterion. Most game buyers just said "They got Burnout, what a great move" but EA got the Burnout series as a throw in (They didn't even dream that it would sell like it did). The real deal was made to get the Renderware software that over 75% of PS2 developers use to make games (everything from the GTA series to Sony's own Rachet & Clank, etc). What this means is that every game that uses that middleware generates royalty money for EA. Yes, EA gets paid for 3 out of every 4 PS2 games sold.
I don't know if the tools are or can also be used for XBox games (I'm guessing they can be refined) but if so then EA would have a hand in possible 80-90% of all home console games.
EA used to be a company of developers cranking out awesome shit, not they're just a big holding company. It's almost like money laundering now the way they just shift money around between their smaller companies. |

yeah, I'm not a big fan of the Blits/Hitz/etc-itz series but I have to appluad them for not buckling. Take Two is reportedly "reviewing" their situation (with Sega's 2K series games) but I can't see releasing a football game without an NFL license except in the case of Blitz, where the games are established.
As a side note I feel bad for the smaller franchises like the Backyard Sports series. My son likes the football, baseball, and basketball games but I'd have to think they lose their NFL game just like that. If EA and Sega are going to go to war it's a shame so many innocent bystanders have to afll by the wayside also.
Welcome to the USofEA, home of the brave and land of the conglomerates. |

I still think one of the most saddening days in game history to me was when EA bought Maxis |

NEWS HEADLINE: GAMESPOT GETS POWNED!!!
Shino and Razer celebrate their gaming insight.
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6115180/index.html
And in further EA World Domination news...You can transfer your character from NFL Street into "the next Madden 2006". So does this mean that next year's version will let you hurdle players and jump off of walls? This has got to be the stupidest way to suck in players yet altho we all know it will work. I mean bringing your guy from Street, where the emphasis is on NOT playing by any official rules, into the official game actually makes no sense.
Also, it's been rumored EA will drop Madden also now that they no longer need his name since there's no competition. Get ready for EASports NFL 2006. And weren't they working on a game that would use "all original EA characters" for a fighting game or something when they snatched the Marvel license? Me and my friends were joking that Madden would be a hidden character in the fighting game. Looks like it'll be the opposite. I can see you transferring your character from NFL Street into the fighting game. What's next? Bring your character from Def Jam Streets of New York 2 into Tiger Woods and then into Need For Speed?
"Hold in one, bitch...I own your ass! Now somebody, bring my ride around so I can tear up the streets and shit!" |
