Mm-kay. Interest may be enough to identify, role-playing might be a distinguishing thing, much like costuming, but in much the same way that any fandom is compased of grades of obsession, the furries are that way as well.

Time to switch gears, then, since since there's no clear answer.

For those who claim identification - why that particular animal(s)?

I prefer being called a Were for the exact reasons you stated ^^ Also, with the aura thing,((IMHO)) a person's personality -is- their aura, the way they carry themselves, how they treat others, what emotions they usually carry. Like all human brains associated colors with certain emotions, like red with passion and anger, and blue with calmness and maybe even lack of emotion. How a person carries themselves matches the emotion our brain associates with colors, and the person is that color. Also, sometimes, regardless of skin color, a certain color looks good on that person because that is their aura color. I claim to see no aura colors, but I think I can guess them pretty well after being around the person for a while. All that was just my opinion ^^

As for the Stag..well...I've just always been drawn to them, always admired, respected, and felt comfortable with them, and always highly disliked any hunting. My uncle hunts, and whenever I would walk through his basement, it felt like a graveyard with all the heads hanging on the walls, and I felt the urge to say a prayer or something. This wasn't just because I had a love for animals, because when feeling naughty, I'd play with the bear's fake tongue and fangs, the fox's tail and ears, etcetc, but I'd never touch the deer in any disrespectful manner. I even remember one time using my brush to brush their fur.

With rabbits, a big part is because I have been around rabbits most of my life and I have raised them for 12 years. They were more my family than my family was when I was growing up. I've always felt much more at ease when rabbits were around, even more so the ease I feel around most other animals. I have always been very good with them. They respond well to me, I picked up very easily on their body language, and I would always raise rabbits over any other animal. Plus they are just adorable. Baby bunnies are, IMO, the cutest things around!

With flying animals, I already explained why I identify with them.

With cats, it is a little different. I started out with cats being my favourite animal. Then my cat died, and I think I was mad at him for leaving me, because I loved him so much. (I was really young). So for a while I claimed to like dogs better, even though it was probably just me being stubborn. Even while I claimed to like dogs better, however, cats would flock to me. I would walk into a house with cats that were normall very reserved and shy around people other than "their" person, and they would surround me, looking for attention (much to the shock of their owner). They would immediately assume I was a cat person. I would tell them, no, I was really more of a dog person. Of course, that was still likely my stubborn nature talking. Then I finally started to realize that I had some unusual connection with cats. The next thing I knew, other than rabbits, cats were my favourite animal again. I love my dog, don't get me wrong, but I connect more with my cats. So I probably spent several years of my life claiming I really liked an animal that I didn't really have a connection with. LOL.

I guess if I were to pick just two animals, then, it would be cats and rabbits. Maybe I am really a winged cabbit.

A lot of people I know are convinced that I am a cat. Several of my friends that have known me for years, such as Shandriz, are convinced I am a cat. Shandriz is also convinced I am really female, but that is besides the point . I admit I do act a lot like cats act, even though I am rarely around them. Animals have also always liked me for some reason. I do remember I used to love cats as a little kid and enjoyed playing with them, until I had a pretty severe allergic reaction to them and was never really allowed around them again.

Ok people!!!!! Who plans on going to A-kon? I have a few ideas for furry suits that I may or may not have ready for the con. If anyone is interested I will share my ideas.
