Let me start off by saying that people "who fit a certain profile" are not Canadian. I don't think I've ever had Canadians that I have waited on. I have had European people, and they do traditionally tip lousy also. This is, however, because they are not used to how restaraunts work in the United States. In their countries, it is not really customary to tip because waiters get paid a hell of a lot more than waiters in the US do, therefore they don't need tips. I'm assuming it may be the same thing in Canada, but I digress.
All you need to know about my people "who fit a certain profile" is baggy jeans, baggy hooded sweatshirts, and gold teeth.
At any rate though, the point of my story was not so much about the tipping, but about how they got arrested. Basically, it was an exciting and amusing end to an otherwise crappy night. It just so happened that they gave me a bad tip. |

I see what you mean. I use to be a waitress at a fancy resturaunt and this guy came in two nights in a row (one was valentines day) with two different girls! HE was a complete a-hole to me the whole night and he left me a $5 tip on a $90 dinner!!! I should of rated him out....oh well.
Since I was a waitress I usually try to tip 20% because i know how it feels, but the minimum is always 15% nothing less!! It's just wrong. |

I have experienced similar happenings while delivering for my pizza restaraunt. It seems that, on average, the more a person can afford to tip, the less they do. I've been to mobile homes two miles away from the store that tip $5 and been to 3,000 square foot brick homes on the lake ten miles from the store that give you the change left out of their tickett (not the paper part, just the change). I've never really been able to understand that other than to tell myself that the way they got rich in the first place was by paying no more for anything than they had to. I know thats no excuse, but I just accept it, flip the house off on the way out, and move on. |

...And then there's the other end of the spectrum.
At a restaurant we go to, one of the employees at the cash machine always puts down 30% tip. Even if mom buys a full bottle of Arak (which can go between 50 and 100$ depending on quality) Mom quickly found out, so whenever she went to the cash, she blurted out "20%!" before the chick punched her 30 into the cash machine. Everytime, the chick made a face at mom before punching in 20. |

See, that's just wrong. You shouldn't force a tip on anyone like that, it's just messed up. The only time my restaraunt does anything like that is if it's a party of 8 or more. That's considered a high maintenece table, and there is an automatic gratuity of 18% to prevent the servers from getting screwed. BUT, it's not just forced. It's clearly listed in the menu, and I'm sure if the people really had a problem with it, they could talk with one of the managers who would more than likely try to help them out. |

aye...you think thats bad...i serve food, and the most i get at times is like, 3 cents. Finé. And the people do it so well to, but just going: "Hey...keep the change, you did a good job!"
The thing that i dont like about where i go to is this: For those of you who go to Starbucks (and thats probably many of you) they get to have a tip jar out and collect tips. Well, since i work in a barnes and nobles, and only sell Starbucks product, we have no tip jar due to reasons associated with store policy. Now, i dont mind, but when people ask about a tip jar, and i go we arent allowed to have one, they just pocket the money and move out. Now, not saying this is everyone, but about only half the people, the other half either give the change to me...or in other words, 12 or 18 cents or something, and tell me to throw out the paper.
But alas, i DO work in retail. And technically, my job is as a retail job, alas, poopie to me
That is all |
