First of all, the exclusive NFL licensing deal was up for grabs to any publisher who offered the most money. It just so happens that Electronic Arts is the biggest game publisher in the world so they obviously have money to spend.
I see there is a lot of bad that could happen from this licensing deal. No more competition means that EA Sports will not have any motive to push for the better product. And the price will probably go back up to $49.99.
And even when ESPN brought out the 2005 line-up of game last year at a price tag of $19.99, Madden and NBA Live still out-sold their counterpart over there at ESPN.
But I totally have faith in EA, it's not like sports games make drastic updates yearly anyways, each game just tweaks the previous years game and adds a couple of key features. This year in madden we got the Hit Stick and totally owns.
I own every madden and nba live since '94, EA 4 life
And BTW, if you had the chance to eliminate competition legally, wouldn't you? |

While I find this one ridiculous, this story doesn't really bother me as much as the Ubisoft deal. I just know something is up with that deal...no one throws in money for no reason these days.
But as I said before (maybe just not on this site), I never cared for EA. The games that come from them directly are not even subpar except for the first Buffy game and the two LOTR movie games (although I am still not big on those two).
The only games I really ever really got interested from them are not developed by them (the upcoming Timesplitters: Future Perfect and Oddworld: Strangers Wraith). I could care two shits about them otherwise.

Watch...I will end up working for them one day and know I will regret typing this...but at this point...I don't care. |
