Ahh yes, the need for challenge. But, I would say, in a sports competetion and/or warfare at least both sides KNOW they are in contention. When you take it upon yourself to initiate a debate during an exchange you immediately try to garner personal gain (self or ego gratification) from something that could otherwise be a peaceful and productive discussion. Which makes me wonder: What do you hope to gain from this thread? |

Ok. I have re-evaluated the relevancy of my last post and wish to admit freely and openly that it was really out of place. Here Graillik is trying to teach us about the sport and tutor us in the finer points of Debate and I'm trying to argue the reason for it's existence.
Two voices + one topic + two seperate goals = No constructive direction
So now, I'm curious and willing to learn. But let's get to the good stuff, shall we? Let's talk about debate techniques and their psychological ramifications... Maestro, play on. |

I need to update this, sorry, I've been busy. Faye and I got into one the other day, an arguement, not a debate. And Faye used the phrase "I'm not going to debate with you>"
Let me clarify this. I didn't want to debate with him, I didn't want his input, I wanted him to sit there and listen. That is what an argument is. When you don't want any input at all, you just want someone to stand there and listen. This usually esscalates into you not agreeing with the statements being made and wanting the person to stand there and take your opinion.
How do you stay out of arguments...2 ways, don't talk to me...or pick your opponents and battles very carefully. The old addage "walk softly and carry a big stick" is what this is talking about. If it is truly something that you don't care about, let it go, and make sure everyone knows you aren't easily angered. Then when you turn loose, everyone listens.
More ond 'Debate' before the end of the week.
