I tried to join but it was 1999 and the military wasn't taking fat people because if they had a heart attack they could sue them. Now apparently that isn't the case and I'm all old now...*sigh*

It's my last post till after boot and in true Graillik fashion I want to go out with a bang.
Why did I join the war? It has nothing to do with politics, oil, mistakes, occupations, Super Powers, or money. It had to do with 2000+ lives being ended because our way of life is a threat. Because our freedom is against someones beliefs. Because that freedom is contagious and spreads. Because it is the right thing to do.
So I ask you to step back a moment and think of a US where you were afraid to leave your homes, to walk the streets, to send your children to schoo. Imagine freedom of thought and of choice ended because of fear. Fear of death, fear that there is nothing better, fear of no hope left. Think about a US that wasn't based on the ideals of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
That when boiled down is what the war is about. Protecting our way of life and trying to extend it to everyone that wishes the same for themselves. Forget wether the war is 'right or wrong'. Forget that there are setbacks in every campaign. Forget that our warriors are gladly giving their lives not only to protect our freedoms, but in hopes of giving those same freedoms to all that want it. That have been oppressed, tired, killed, and pushed down for wanting a better life.
This war is about doing the right thing, and heaven help us if we do not see it through. War is horrible, but our freedom, and the freedoms of all that are willing to fight for it hang on this time, this moment, this decision.
I just hope we will all look back on this in later years and think of it like WWII and not like Korea. Because if we can not look back, if we can not look now and say, 'these people deserve to be free', then what does our great country really stand for?
