http://www.gamestm.co.uk/pma/284
I'm glad they did something, but if the [_] button is still off to the side, the main issue everyone is having is not fixed.
For me... as long as the button works I don't care. But I know people (some on here) that are not buying it b/c of the way they positions the [_] button.
Well, I'm not worried. But for PSP sales reasons, I hope they fix the positioning. |

My standpoint is that even though it may be a small amount - it's still bad design. And bad practice on Sony's end. Just because duck tape can hold a car door on doesn't mean it's a good idea.
When you are designing something from scratch to sell to the masses and you actively know the schematics aren't up to snuff then you rework them.
And excuse for not fixing it just is inexcusable in my eyes as the consumer. |

Since both Shino and Blackmage will own one, I'll make a performance decision after they have had theirs awhile. ; )
Since Sony is new to handheld games and such I expect them to make mistakes. It will be just like the PS2 thing, where they explored new territory and a few systems had issues. |

Hey Doot... here you go.
This is what I was trying to tell you ...
http://image.lik-sang.com/content/psp/release/psp-release48.jpg
The rubber lines up with the button. As long as that is true, the button can be made differently mechanically to make it work.
I'm not defending the design... it was stupid, but I am defending the mechanics b/c it does work.
The "reponsiveness" of the button is just from not having the actually button broken in. The article posted at the top should have fixed this. The button should now be "already broken in" when you get it. |

It's good to know this problem is getting fixed. I still don't like the way they designed it, and I especially don't like Ken Kutaragi's arrogance on the situation, but as long as it works (and continues to operate successfully for just as long as any other button on the system) all is well.
Anyway, I'm a bit of a Nintendo fan; I bought a DS, and I enjoy the novelty and features of it. However, there just aren't enough games out for the DS right now I'm interested in playing. If the PSP sees a good library of quality games, I'll pay the price for it. |

Well I'm sure Chris is going to pick it up so I'll get to fiddle with it a bit. I'm just perterbed with Sony on it. Mayeb a bit hotheaded. I'm all about the quality baby!
We shall see if Sony can make a believer out of Doot. |

After seeing all the reports, I was all like "WTF? Sony is retarded!". I just couldn't understand how they could make a product with such serious flaws (not just the square button, but dead pixels, flying UMDs, smudgy face, etc) and when consumers are like "Um... got a little problem here." they go "It's not a problem! It's SUPPOSED to be that way." As if saying they did it on purpose and not calling it a "problem" or "mistake" will fix it, heh. That's a real kick in the nuts, right there.
But then I played the PSP... oooooh man... so nice. Granted, I still can't ignore the hardware flaws or Sony's big "F You!" to the consumers... but if they get thier act together... it'd be a really sweet thing to own.
I ain't pickin' up the PSP or the DS for a very long time. I'm waiting for a price drop and for the DS to come in different colors... also for skins so I can make my DS look awesome. |
