This is why I stay away from all these things nowadays, and this just proves how ridiculous it's all getting.

To quote the article, "Why would Nintendo release a new handheld just a year after it released the innovative DS?"

Gee...I wonder why? It couldn't be to make more money off of the kids who throw tantrums if their parents don't get the newest thing for them...could it? (/sarcasm)

I'm perfectly happy staying behind the technology curve. I'm more than pleased with my non-camera cell phone and my MiniDisc player...

Ok guys, the article say it hasn't been confirmed. It's analyst speculation. In fact the article states that Nintendo releases a new GBA every 2 years. Let's see, that means they've release the GBA SP since the initial release. You can't base a trend off of one event.

I say this is totally a rumor. If Nintendo wants their DS sale to increase, then they'd focus on that instead of putting out a new GBA.

Hey, I can see it. the fact is, theres guy out there like me that make a habit of staying about a year or two behidn the gaming revolutions. Why? In a year I can play the same game for around 20$ less brand new than peopel who bought a game fresh off the press. I break habit now and then with games Im really looking forward to, but mostly, i stay behind the times and firendly with my pocket book.

Well if, in fact,m Nin sticks with the statement that the DS is not a replacement for the GBA then it would make sense to release a new model. Hell, they're still releasing new game specific models in Japan like every six months or something.
However, if they do intend for the DS to supercede the GBA (pretty dumb with the installed base, I'd say) then it wouldn't make sense to devote much R&D to new GBA projects. GBA games have slowed down considerably from all companies but I can't see any sound reasoning behind that when the GBA is still outselling all consoles on any given week. Matter of fact, the GBA is outselling the XBox in Japan.

Here are the console hardware sales in Japan for the week 2/14-2/20:

1. PlayStation 2 - 38,954 units
2. PlayStation Portable - 38,314 units
3. Nintendo DS - 22,363 units
4. GameBoy Advance SP - 10,849 units
5. GameCube - 3,256 units
6. GameBoy Advance - 399 units
7. Xbox - 295 units

Personally I view the DS as the current 32X and we all know how well that turned out. Tho it was better than the Virtual Boy. Scary that had the VB caught on we could all be playing our games in red & black. <shudder>

My friend told me ''If we get a new dev-kit from Nintendo, I'll call you, and you best be selling that DS while it's still worth something!''

So I'm waiting for him to tell me wether or not they'll be making it for real. I mean IF they really make a new console, the DS will really be Nintendo's 32X, and I don't want of a console like that, cause right now I have expectations with the DS, and I want my Zelda 64 DS, Sonic DS, a Metal Slug, Contra. If that ain't gonna happen then I'll sell my DS with Mario 64 DS, end of the game, so long Nintendo <_<
