Gran Turismo 4

MAn, this one really snuck out on me, I read that it was comign out march 14th and then I get a clal form Gamestop telling me "My game, Gran Turismo 4, whoudl be arriving in the store tomarrow." I jumped on the phone with my contact at Gamestop and found out it was true. Wowza.

As Gaaz pointed out about the soundtrack, GT4 is, basicially, a really good racing game. By its self, this is impressive...but not exciting. The magic behind GT4 is, in my opinion, the way the present it. The cool white motife that themes the games menus, the visually simple itcons from garage to car dealers, to the way that tracks and tasks are worded and described - lush with rich wording and adjectives. Im really impressed with the over all feel of the game. The play mechanic remains bascially the same. A few HUD changes, as Shino mentioned the G force meter, and numerous technical advancements that are invisible to players, but other than that the gameplay is relitivly unchanged. Because if it isnt broke, dont fix it.

As for me? Got my B, A, and working on iB liscenes. Currently used my starting cash to buy a used 83' Sprinter Trueno, panda coloring (yes, the car form Initial D *flex*) and am having fun with it. Its IS getting about time for Turbo though, but Im tryign to keep it Natually Aspirated for those sorts of races.

Oh, one more feature Im liking, when you compelte a tour, you can erase your tropheys and redo the tour to win the prize car again. Easiest way to get cash is to start winning the Sunday Cup and selling that new Lupo they give you for 8K. Cha ching!

Amazing how the Trueno (tho it's spelled Tureno on the actual car in the anime) has become so popularly associated with street racing when the Corolla looks like such a PoS. LOL

I love the soundtrack...Van Halen and James Brown in the same game!

The car lineup, however, is the biggest joke in gaming. "The Real Driving Simulator" and it has one freakin' Volvo? Pontiac has no Grand Am? Cadillac has no current models at all? There are like 20 friggin' Audis!! So Payola has reared it's ugly little head again, huh?

And screw the Mitsu Eclipse, where's my Ford Contour???
Altho I am getting along with my '62 Buick Special tuned up to a blistering 832 HP. Like they had anything that fast on the streets in '62. This game really is absurd when you stop to think about it.

Why doenst my Mazda Mazda6 Concept have a drivetrain? It not FF, FR, MR, or 4WD, it just...is...*spooky*

Theres a few things car wise that piss me off about this game, like lack of hp/toruqe, drivetrain or even value on some cars.

But they may not have a contour... but they do have a taurus sho, which is better imo. but smoking hondas on the interstate with never leaving 5th gear was always more fun than a racing game just becuase they'd be in 3rd or 4th gear almost wound out and im halfway up the tach in 5th pulling bus lengths on them. i miss my car :/

Shino, the car list I gave is complete thanks to my Codebreaker. I have every car in the game open (I own 81 now) from the Mercedes patent car to the Nike racer and even Jay Leno's Tank Car. The roster sucks worse than a $5 whore and the racing actually isn't much better. I can't pull a turn doing better than 40 mph while the computer is pulling them at 90+. And it can't be the tires because the computer automatically switches my tires FROM racing slicks (on my Chevelle) "to conform with the race".
Gotta love the insane bumper car physics also. I tap a car in a turn and it just slides out of the way losing any control whatsoever.

As for Taurus vs Contour. I've driven a Taurus (maybe not the SHO model) and I own a Contour. The handling is nowhere near. I'm probably biased as I'm used to mine. But no Grand Am??? Does Pontiac even sell any other model of car?

I can't comment on this game any further before I really sound like a hater but I can't in good conscience recommend this game to anyone but a diehard GT fan and even then...

You obviously dont like using the break pedals and should stick with arcade racers. But anyways I've played enough found topspeeds though a lot of corners, hairpins and 90 degrees are usually around 40ish with normal street tires, and 60+ for others, remember to not always use WOT for everything

That's right. No saving on 24-hour endurance races. Not a problem for those of you with long weekends, but let's say you're a student who can only play, say, one or two hours a day...?

And I wanna know, which "good" cars are there in the game? I mean the super class cars, the Skylines, the RX-7s, the GT racing models and so on and so forth? Just to know if the meat sounds good.

the only way to do the 24 hour races in those circumstances is set up a relay of people:P
