I watched stunned as the footage showed the (whatever it was; in regards to BWS) disintegrrating in the atmosphere. But the thing that really pushed my buttons was that now "they" are trying to say that this could've been an attack by Muslim extremists because one of the men onboard was an Israeli.
I mean, really!!

yeah... i think a couple hundered thousand feet in the air is a touch high for missles to really be effective. o_O;;
its a shame that we only really hear about the space program when something goes wrong, though. u_u\ |

I feel for the families. Could you imagine waiting at NASA for your loved one to finally return home. 20 mins til they reach you....can you imagine the joy and antisipation....and then BOOM! All your lives are changed, and sadly the answers may never come as to what actually happened. Its terribly tragic...I dont mean to be mean, but I just dont understand how some things can be joked about, but then again, maybe im just too sensitive to thinks like this, because i just ache for the families of those who just lost those they loved....be it a mom, dad, lover, or even just a friend...thier lives will never be the same now ~sighs~ |

I am selfishly greatful that a person I knew did not have to die, but I am sure that like others he will suffer because of this. Death is an event that should be mourned and I fully plan on remembering these fine people as pioneers who are no less important than any other member of the human race.
That said, it pains me that already spin is being put on this to propagate a war that parallels the barbaric crusades of old. Then and now, we fear that which we don't understand; hoping that we can place all the blame of our decisions on the shoulders of others. It doesn't work that way. We are responsible for helping to bridge this world into a new era, and must be tolerable of people who do not wish for us to interfere. |

Just out of curiousity, where does it say we are blaming this on others? Reading CNN yesterday and this morning, all I see is officials saying that there was absolutely no chance that it was an attack. |

My dad just found out that when he was watching a piece of a footage on the puter, he notice that the spaceship was going sideways, and not the normal way, nose down. it was on 90° angle. How horrid. |

I don't think its the news itself, so much as the people watching it. Like on those phone-in programs, there were all these people jumping to wild conclusions, and so forth. |

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Feb. 2) - Countless clues left investigators with few answers as they probed what caused the breakup of space shuttle Columbia after the deadly disaster spewed debris across hundreds of miles.
In addition to examining the wreckage, NASA was analyzing transmissions from the crew, records from the shuttle's sensors and data from military, government and commercial satellites.
``We will be poring over that data 24 hours a day for the foreseeable future,'' NASA shuttle project manager Ron Dittemore told a Houston news conference Saturday, hours after the tragedy.
The space agency put a hold on all shuttle launches until the cause of the accident involving the oldest ship in its fleet could be determined.
Investigators quickly focused on the possibility that Columbia's thermal tiles were damaged far more seriously than NASA realized by a piece of debris during liftoff.
so they knew that the ship was fudgucked up while liftoff... |

Tiles always come off during liftoff -- it usually is not a large enough amount to make a difference during re-entry. The government isn't dumb enough to send such a huge amount of money (both the spaceship and the money invested in training the astronauts) into space. They may be bastards, but they're not stupid. |
