"Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything..."
I caught the midnight show last night/this morning. It was awesome. Well worth the 8.50. Sin City is a story of revenge, romance, and REAL men who would do anything for the women they love.
"It's time to prove to your friends that you're worth a damn. Sometimes that means Dying...sometimes that means killing a lot of people."
The Heroes are bada$$. These guys are willing to do anything and everything to protect the people they love. Sin City is a combination of three of the Sin City graphic novel stories. My favorite of the three heroes was Hartigan played by Bruce Willis. The other two heroes were great too though, don't get me wrong. I loved each and every story. I can't really go into it without spoiling the story.
The style of the movie was very interesting. Felt like I was literally watching a comic book play out. Very cool. I loved the coloring too. Black and white with splashs of color. I've heard about 80% of the movie is line for line, scene for scene out of the comic books. I'm actually interested in reading them now after seeing the movie. So that's very cool. See Hollywood, a true comic book film CAN be done.
Seriously, Go See Sin City now. Action, Romance, Comic, Film Noir. It's a bit of everything. Even if it might not seem like Sin City is your thing you might find yourself enjoying it. =D |

So, a bunch of us went and saw this last night...I was..I don't know. It's really not my style of movie in a lot of fashions, not my sense of humour, etc. But I love the way they did things. The splashes of colour in a grayscale primary movie, and I liked some of the overall theories/ideals behind it. I guess I just couldn't adjust myself to the setting in general.
I know, I know, with a title like "Sin City" what did I expect? No, honestly, I knew it was going to be a bit dodgy in that respect, but I can still appreciate the storylines. |

I know what you mean Shan. The storylines were what drew me in and kept me entertained. I really loved Hartigan and Marvin. |

Me, Rev, and Tobs just saw it. WOW is all I can say. I'm probably going to go pick up the first of the graphic novels later on...it was that good.
Also, just to repeat what you all said...the way they made this film was impressive. The black and white with splashes of color for emphasis was gorgeous, and it really added a spin on the film that made it feel like modern art in some way.
Without giving up anything, all I have left to say is that if you're squeamish, you may want to reconsider your movie-going choices. This one is not for the faint of heart, and has been given (by me, Rev, and Tobs) the gratuitous violence award.
Enjoy! |

Yeah, I <3 Marv. He's hardcore. Dwight was pretty cool in the movie, but if you've read "A Dame To Kill For" you know Dwight's not that cool, heh heh. Although I did dig the runnin' around killin' folks in a trench coat and chuck taylors. Verra' cool.
How creepy was Radio-Flyer runnin' around cuttin' people up n' eating them? ha ha! "Nooo Mister Frodo!"
I can't wait for this movie to come out on DVD. I heard the DVD will have the option to watch the movies as individual stories or "issues". So, if you want to watch JUST Marv's story "The Hard Goodbye", you can watch JUST Marv's story WITH all the scenes put back in (like the one where he goes to visit his mom and get his gun, Gladys). Pretty hot, no? |

What I really hope for is them putting the scene back in where Marv beats up Weevil. And only one person could possibly play Weevil, HUGH JACKMAN! Hair and all |

Noir is the new black. (TEE HEE!)
Seriously - this is one of my alltime favorites now.
I'm diggin the retro film styles Hollywood is kicking into (Sky Cap and now Sin City) keep it coming!
I would be very interested to catch the dvd if they do make them "Issues" . That would be FABULOUS! |

Hooray!
Robert Rodriguez wrote: | "We shot the full stories of the books," Rodriguez says. "And I knew we could truncate it down, we weren't going to lose any scenes. Eventually they would all be available for people to see. The DVD will come out with the theatrical cut, and then there will be a separate disc that's got the individual episodes separate with their own title card and you could just watch The Big Fat Kill from beginning to end in its full cut as a single story and then switch over and watch The Yellow Bastard, and that's 45 minutes. It will have all the material back in, so it will be like the experience of picking up the books where you pick up one story and you read it from beginning to end and it will have all the material in it. So you can kind of shuffle your own version of the movie and just watch them all separately." |
