We live in a society and world that creates biased social rules and double standards. It claims that men are not supposed to hit women just because they are women, and this is totally clouded. Gender should not have anything to do with this situation. Statistically, more men are abusers of the opposite sex than women, but it DOES work the other way in many circumstances. The point is not that men shouldn't hit women, per se, but that we should hit no one, unless we are in some sort of danger. There is no excuse for abusive behavior.
Bascially, as whitey pointed out, saying that you shouldn't hit a woman under any circumstances is a completely sexist statement. Especially in a time where women are constantly fighting for equality everywhere. While it is a shame at how in many situations women are treated below men, it is unfair and selfish to attempt to pick and choose what we are equal in. Don't argue that you want equal pay, and then get pissed off when I don't hold a door for you. You can have one: equality or special treatment. |

OK here are my $.02.
I agree with you guys and I think Grallik may have put it best.
I would never hit anyone... first.
However, I know how to defend myself, and I will. But only enough to stop them from attacking me. So chances are it would take less force to stop a woman than a man. In most cases that is. For instance, Riva pointed out that his mother-in-law was choking him. Well you know what, I know several ways to get out of being choked and pretty much destroy the attacker in the process. If I was getting choked by someone that I thought was really trying to kill me, I would probably to my best to tear them up, but if it was someone that was on the smaller side that just had no idea what they were getting into, I would probably restrain myself a little.
The point is... just don't start the fight. Is there really a point in it?
Fighting is retarded. Defending yourself is necessary. |

*clears throat* i think it's time for a woman's point of view!!! i think we're all in agreement that someone who attacked another man or woman (without damn good reason) would be seriously lacking in testicular mass. but even more lacking in balls is a man who beats up on other women, because that situation really is all about power, just like rape. personally, i'd beat the crap out of any guy who tried to seriously injure me, but society trains women to be complacent and to just roll with the punches, so to speak. that's why so many women stay in abusive relationships for years. but on the other side of the coin, if i were to randomly attack a grown man, i'd expect him to beat the crap out of me as well, even though i'm a foot shorter than him and half his weight. the idea of putting women up on a pedestal really doesn't advance the cause of womens' rights because it means that us females still do not get equal treatment. all genders have to be treated on the same set of standards, because as we learned from the civil rights movement, separate can never be equal. chicks rock just as much as dudes

My point exactly. You can't pick and choose what you get. Equality is equality, with no none of this "some are more equal than others" crap. |

I think a root point of that idea is that men are over all just a lot bigger and stronger than women. If I got in a fist fight with Terin, it'd be on like donkey kong - but say you pit me up against shandriz and I have a serious statistical advantage is terms of weight and power.
Doesnt the connection of that idea to social rules come from the 40-50s social era where you were supposed to put your coat on the ground for them to cross a puddle of water? |

I've seen my stepmom tear up my dad so bad...Scratches on the face, bleeding, almost to the poing of needing medical help...bruises...all of.
But, only because he won't hit her back. My opinion is that you should beat her up--but if she starts really hurting you--knock the piss out of her one good time. It'll change her approach, I promise.
Hell, if I started doing all that, I'd want to be hit...wow. |

Weight and Power yes, but she has been taking some martial arts. Not to mention you would have to get through her man first. hehe.
In all seriousness, it boils down to the fact that no one should attack anyone. However sometimes you get the person that can't control themselves or don't have the maturity level needed to work things out. At which point it is necessary to defend yourself.
The problem is that the way society is, like katana said, her step mom tears up her dad. However if her dad defended himself and hurt her, there would be some sort of domestic abuse bull shit going on. |
