Well....if the fight with a dragon wasn't enough, or the mermaids, or the return of-Ooops, said to much, and I wouldn't want him mad at me anyway |

And this film is guarenteed to blow everything away too!
But I wonder, what will be cut to make room for all the subplots that are going on in this film. And with the cutting of Cedric Diggory from the last film, will his relationship with Harry be understood at all? |

Dammit, I need to see Prisoner of Azkaban. Oh, and this movie looks sweet thus far, but seriously, you have to wonder how long this movie is going to turn out to be. |

It could've gone a bit longer. At least then it woulda been a bit more enjoyable.
So here's the deal, I caught up on the books in time to see the movie. (I'm almost done with Order of the Phoenix and almost regretting it).
Goblet of Fire was one of my favorites of the series of books (aside from Prisoner) and I honestly hadn't a clue what was going to happen during the maze task. Anyway, the movie was kind of chopping, quick, like you were watching it on fast forward. The further it got the more picky I got.
I mean, I understand you can't put everything in a 700 or so page book into a movie and that's fine, but to drop some pretty amazing stuff (where the hell'd the Quidditch Cup go?) is just plain poor script planning.
Things I liked:
The first task went well - although pretty quickly.
Focus on Neville Longbottom. I sure do like that kid.
Myrtle was cracking me up.
The second task was pretty neatly done.
I'm finding myself more and more attracted to Snape. hehehe
Things I disliked:
No elaboration on the festivites at the quidditch world cup.
No World Cup gameplay AT ALL! NONE!
No people being floated above the crowd as the deatheaters swarmed the camp.
No house elves.
Ludo Bagman is MIA
WTF putting Crouch Jr in the first scenes.
Making Hermione a silly girly swoon over Viktor.
No Hermioninny! ness
Barty Crouch Sr. too absentminded and lost throughout the whole movie.
What the hell kind of ending did they have!?
Yes I'm being picky but I feel that reading the book BEFORE seeing this one really dampered it for me. |

Well, coming from someone who hasn't read the book, I really enjoyed it... through and through. I have an annoying habit of dissecting movies as I watch them... How did they do this effect, making note of things like cuts or lighting... etc, etc. But GoF was one of the first movies in a long time that just had me glued to my seat, focused on the action at hand. I actually had fun.
Talking with PRG afterwords, she clued me in on some of the stuff that they had cut, and I too, was disappointed. (although she enjoyed the movie as much as me... but then again... she's a fangirl. )
With that, and considering how well over half of the audience has probably read the book, I can see where this movie would be a letdown to a lot of people. Still, from Myrtle to Snape to all of the fantasitc action sequences, this is still my favorite movie of the bunch.
Although, I still wanna hold Ron and Harry down and give them a taste of the Flowbee. |

More of a gripe with the story than the movie - there seemed to be a drastic shift in the tempo of the story. Normally we are presented very early on with a mystery the three little scoobies try to solve as the year oes on; this one took us from a slightly different angle, the characters having to deal more with immediate problems one after the other; leaving little time for super sleuthing. Not a complaint, just an observation really. I did enjoy the movie tons and Im looking forward to rereadi9ng the books in the future. |
