In accordance with Military Regs, English and Swahili are the only Cat-5 languages available. I believe this is because English is mostly a Dialect and not an actual Language. The switching of letters, the non phonetical spellings, the just plain strange words like Lying, Lion, Line...things like that. Our language is one of the few word order with marker time related languages...I could go on, but that would take too much time to relate these things too you. See...3 different spellings of to, too, two... |

Aren't Russian and Chinese up there as well? English is weird, but those two are about on par with it in difficulty, was always my understanding. |

riva: that's really weird that there's not a program for proper british english. makes no sense to me at all, especially considering how much nicer british accents are than american. i'm personally really unnaturally good with languages (english and otherwise), and the main thing i've noticed that pisses me off about english is that there are more exceptions to the rules than there are actual rules *pouts*

first off: African is the way to spell it
Second off: i think european English should be the in those programs...maybe Girkon is right: the americans are plotting ot make everyone learn american english!
Another thing ive noticed is that many people are learning english...and the american version. I went to poland, and they all pretty much learned english. I get a lot of foreign people that come into work and seem to already have a great grasp at english for only a short period of time living in the States.
One thing i must say: I think the people in westport pretend to have British accents because they think they seem cooler when they hear it. Its a conspiracy i tell you! |

Tobs, there's a word for the language spoken in South Africa. It's called (and spelled) Afrikaans, and descends from Dutch. |

I suspect the corruptions happened through the often-American tendency to create slang, advertisement, and a sub-language within a language. At some point, the changes came back into the original language creating "U.S. English" (of which there is no U.K. English option because the programmers are Americans. A localized version on the U.K. would apear silly to them because, well, they speak English.)
So it's strange and silly and stupid all at once. |
