the stupid thing about this blacking out childrens faces thing is, that its not the kids faces these guys look at, and parents argue that they could spot one of these people a mile off. whos to say one of the parents you talk to when fetching your own child isn't watching the other children in this disturbing way |

There has been some off-record discussion about this thread and I want to make something perfectly clear.
I think the topic name should be changed to "Advice for handling children" instead of "Parental advice."
There is some advise that people can provide to parents about handling children, which could be considered parental advise.
So I want to update...

No amount of part time care will ever provide a person with the real life knowledge needed as a parent. |
OK so I commented on this statement before. And I stand by what I said IF you take "parental advice" as "advice about handling children," which I did. However, if you take it another way. If you take it as "Advice about BEING A PARENT," then I agree with Kiyomi. No amount of part time exposure to children will make you understand what it is REALLY like to BE A PARENT.
Kiyomi wrote: | Now, all that being said, this thread is not a bad idea, overall. Ideas can be tossed out and used or not used. They may or may not work, and it is up to the parent's judgement to decide whether or not that course of action will work with their child. It is a good idea generator, but I definitely believe that there is no universal rules when it comes to kids. Shan's first post was filled with excellent ideas. Most of them are good for generization, but may not apply to certain individuals. For example, most toddlers definitely do understand more than most people think, but some will have a lower level of understanding. I do definitely agree that it is good to let a kid throw a tantrum and not give into them and not to baby a child. If you do, they just learn that tantrums and crying will get them what they want and will keep doing it. |
I agree with Kiyomi 100% here. This thread is a good idea. Some advise will be good for the people it is given too, some may not be. It's up to the person to decide. Another reason I would like to change to topic name. What if the person that needs advise isn't a parent, what if ... say Suna-chan needs advise about babysitting a child that won't listen. Again, I think this thread is appropriate even if she isn't the parent of the child.
So. I say we keep this topic around, but change the name to "Advice for handling children."
What do you guys think? |

...you know, I would have edited it myself...
I just wanted to make sure that this was acceptable. No sense modifying it if we're just going to let it die anyhow. |
