I was reading computer shopper right, and I came across this nifty computer called the Torque.SLI made by overdrivePC. I was just wondering if anyone might have one or has thought about getting one. It looks pretty good to me and got some awesome reviews.

Some stats on the Torque SLi I looked up:
Quote:

Processor Family: AMD Athlon 64 FX
Installed RAM: 1024 MB
Hard Drive Capacity: 448 GB
RAID: Yes
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra
Primary Optical Drive: Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW
Secondary Optical Drive: DVD/CD-RW
Monitor Type: CRT
Monitor Size: 22 inches

More indepth review here.

For 6.5k, its definatly an invertment. I dunno much about specs, Im not a PC guru, but she looks pretty. I bet you could look into seeing asignificant price drop around christmas thought, or immediately afterward, if you were patient.

For 6.5K...

No...

I am in the process of building a computer for K-chan...

Processor: AMD Athlon (32 Bit)
Ram: 1.5G
Hard Drive: 250G
Graphics Card: nVidia GeForce 6800 GT
Primary Optical Drive: Dual-Layer DVD+/-RW

Total Cost... including really cool ass Dragon Case...
$761

Differences...

I'm not sure about what RAID is in this case. I know RAID as (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks) which is usually used for Linux servers for data redundancy and protection. So that isn't any use here.

The secondary drive is useless if you have a DVD drive already as a primary. Yeah you could use one for disc to disc copy. But a DVD drive can be purchased for < $50

The monitor. Well did you see my thread about the 19" viewable flatpanel for $250. There you go. And this 22" CRT is probably about 19" viewable.

448GB hard drive. Unless you are planning on doing a lot of video editing and stuff on your box, you don't need that much. Hell... I only have 140GB of hard drive space. And only about 60 of it is used. At most.

Vid Card. The difference between an Ultra and a GT is like $100 - $200 depending on what brand you get. And you only get a few more frames/sec on the games.

Don't do it!

Adding a 64bit processor like the one above would have added maybe $100.

There is no way I would pay $6.5K on that!

Holy Hardware Batman!

As far as RAID. RAID 0 is a configuration where two hard drives are linked together to run supah powahed.

edit:
I skimmed the computer review thingy. Part of the reason it's so expensive is because of the SLI Twin video cards. There's two cards not one. Both hard drives are 10k rpm not the standard 7200 or whatever it usually is. IE Faster but I hear the 10k are a little noisier. Dual 10k hard drives linked together though *whistle* still nowhere near worth the exorbitant price however.

Yeah tell me about it.

OK so sounds like the same idea but the are doing more like RAED (replace "Inexpensive" with "Expensive"). But yeah... still not worth the cash. For all I know, what I picked out for K-chan may do that, I didn't really look into it. I know the board takes SATA too, which will soon be the standard.

Yeah video cards make it pricy. Still not worth $6000 though.

Can't be no where as loud as the fans in mine and andys boxes. I spent about $650 on my computer and it came to the following:

775 Socket Asus P5P800 with 3.0ghz HyperThreading Intel
2 512mb sticks of dual ddr 400 kingston memory
1 30g hdd
1 40g hdd
NVidea 6600 GT 128meg video
16x Dual Layer DVD Burner
And a Blackmage Look alike case

And this thing runs any game I own pretty well. While running my website and current test database.

Im a firm believer in buying something that you can gradually build apon over the next 5 years as the high end stuff that really doesn't make much of a difference for stuff now a days goes down in cost.

Ohh and after that Major News Paper try against Intel. AMD is looking desperate and may go under. Razz

SATA can be linked together in RAID configs, at least my mobo can do raid on SATA drives, i plan on getting some 10.000rpm sata 150 drives and stripe them for speeeeedddd. since theres no reason to mirror them as everything that goes on the main drive(s) is always easily replacible.

The computer I am building for K-chan supports RAID.

Actually decided to halfass price this out. Even if you buy the components from somewhere like Frys your only gunna spend maybe $3800 at MOST.
depending on what brands you buy.

$1000 for the AMD Athlon FX and mobo
$1000 for Dual BFG 6800s
$600 for HDs, could be more or less
$200 keyboard/mouse/speakers
$500 monitor
$130 1gb ram
$100 for the case
$250 for the DVD stuffs

**edit: forgot xp corperate edt which i beleive is 300, so just a smidgen over $4100
