Unfortunately there would be about 2 or 3 years of no petrol usage which will severely hinder the American economy and home life.

Here's another thing I was wondering:

If/When we create a hydrogen engine efficient and realistic enough to be widely available. Wouldn't the resulting emissions basically make it cloudy and rainy all the time or is there a finite amount of water on the world?

Well rain is the result of moisture evaporating into the air. So I guess it would depend on the concentration of such power being used. With that being said though is a lesser evil than the fumes from petrol usage

Actually, it probably wouldn't since the engine works on separating Hydrogen and hydroxide, using one to fuel and the other to combust. It's not the same as water vapor, which would create precipitation and then lead into rain or fog. But it would be separated, burned, and would enter the atmosphere, which, when you think about it, does give it plenty of reason to come back together in o-zone and rain down again. I dont think you'll be in a perpetual fog though.

While not related to using water as fuel, it is related to alternative methods of fuel. What about those nice vegetable oil fuels or whatever, as well as using grease? As I learned in Thermo, although I have no idea how, you can convert a deisel engine to run off of just about anything that will burn. We even learned of some people that converted a bus to run off of the left over grease that McDonald's usually throws away, they actually drove around and gave all the people from the seminar it was at a ride, stopping to refuel at McDonald's.
