Faye and I went to see this, the first of Nicholas Cage's 2-hit combo yesterday (the other other being a jump in weak kick, also called Weatherman.). Curiously enough, there was a weathermasn promo on the movie. Speaking of the movie, theres a whole side of it the previews don't tell you about, and thats the cocaine use. I havn't seen this much coke in a movie since Blow. Other than that, the preview has pretty much told you the whole story and key scenes, so you get to be rewarded for watching it by getting a 2 hour reenactment.

Not to say this is a bad movie. Cage is great, as always - the supporting cast holds up nicely with I think the exception of his highly sterotypical ukranian uncle. Theres several pretty good tit scenes, which for me was a great surprise. There has been a definate loss of quality in the tit scene in modern cinema, most of them being reserved for cheap thrills at some teen movie. Lord of War adds the adult flair and how it meshes with Cage's seedy underworld life nicly - really makes the whole movie seem more real. Cage's arch nemises cop played by Ethan Hawk is at the same time unbelievebale and attracting - Hes that legendary pure good hearted super cop that doesn't bend rules and excells in his feild.

All the elements for a fantastic movie are there, and it all comes together well, its just takes its time getting there. I think about 15 minutes of needless scenes could have been easily cut and not lost the point of the story. If you must go see it, you wont be dissapointed, but you won't be talking about the movie very much either.
