I hate the Holiday season

Eh the people dont get mad at me during all of this, its the stress of a billion customers and my bosses all 6 of em :/

I hate gifts. I hate the whole structure of it. It's disgusting.

Now that I got that out I can say this:

I LOVE my friends. The people who I consider my friends are very important to me. Even a chance encounter with an awesome person is like being rich for that time we share. People having REAL relationships is important to me. I, like GD, am a Buddhist and in the grand tradition of when Christ entered the Synagog (sp?) and kicked over the table I would LOVE to do just that. Walk into a big retail store and kick over their displays and shout: "Go home! Go back to the people that care for you and that you care for and tell them. Words are hard enough to come by and we try to make gifts speak for us? Stop! Go home, pick up the phone and call somebody you care about! Tell them in the simplist way you know how: I LOVE YOU! I want to know what's going on with you. How are you is there anything I can do for you. Would you like to come over? Are you hungry. Let's talk."

To all of you: You ARE my friends! I wish you a Merry Christmas in the true sense of the word.

Oi...im gonna get beaned with a cup of eggnog...i know it...

But for me, i love the holidays. I am a fan of anyone who says a hearty merry christmas in the season and the like. Sure, i dislike it when im setting up the christmas fixtures at work...and i also work in food service/retail (the Barnes and Nobles Cafe.) I dont necessarily have a problem with it though. People do this every year. And as Therin said...its about as funny when you get home and look at it as fido running square into that wall.

Last year, i actually found solace in working on christmas eve. I was home alone on christmas eve, and went in and gave an extra hand on quite possibly the hardest day. I donned my Santa hat, and made drinks like it was my purpose in life, and a merry christmas went off to everyone in line that I helped. I came home and made myself dinner, and sat down and watched TV, and said "I feel good..."

Christmas has become a very tangible season...but it takes learning for most people. And a lot of people do understand the true meaning of christmas, and for that matter, the holidays...they've just got too much going on to really care about it, which is what saddens me. As Ray said, sometimes, i feel the only present i really want to offer is just a call to my friends and family, saying "Merry Christmas," or "Happy Holidays." But this is also based on the fact that I have a love of humanity.

And as far as the english goes, it's not really a problem for me. I too am an english major, and it makes me happy to hear a good ol Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. Sure, it gets tough at times, but the fact that you can smile and keep working is great in my eyes, and the fact that if you can wish it back makes me happy.

Also, I find that a lot of people just like expressing a lot of angst around the holidays. This is supposed to be a happy time...and while some people try to show me it isn't, i won't give it up. I love this time of year, I love the people (despite the days i come home from work about to flip a table) and i love everything about it.

Christmas for me, is not about the presents. I love the atmosphere and the smiles that people get on their faces : D That real Christmas buz is an awesome feeling, and being able to share and care with people is groovy! I also love the decorations, I heart shiny lights and tinsil so hard

;; I haven't been bothered about presents for years and years - not even on my birthday, but I love to watch other people open presents... although, I love ripping wrapping paper >.>

Yes, but my job involves commercialism not nearly to the degree of other types of retail. mine supports the cause of your familys christmas dinner and such.

I just wish people wouldnt wait till 5mins till 6 when we close on christmas eve and spend 2 hours buying food!

Well, when I was a kid, it was all about the presents. Yeah, maybe I wasn't taught the same "spirit of giving" because I was too caught up in the "spirit of opening my new mystery gifts" hehe, sorry, I'm human, and one christmas morning I had one thought: presents under the tree. Now, the numerous years of associating the smell of pine, nutmeg, cookies, and all the things that make christmas helped wrap up that sensation of happiness that is so nostalgic when it comes around every year. I'm just calling it like I see it. As far as commercialism goes, go for it, if there's someone who's gonna buy it, there's someone willing to sell it. *shrugs*

I am not going to get into the religious side of Christmas, and yes, I celebrate Christmas, not "the holidays". I might enter a rant. yesh, I'm gonna start my own thread.
