Well I decided to teach myself to ink, I think my first attempt was pretty poor (Im starting a web comic and this is supposed to be the first one but I'm gonna do it in the style of the second image)

Can someone enlighten me as to exactly what inking is? I've heard that term thrown around a lot here, and I've finally decided to ask.

It's the process of taking your penciled or penned image into digital format and into Photoshop (or like program) and utilizing the program to lay crisp lines to said image for ease of digital color rendering. It's the digital equivalent of what comic book inkers do with the pencils of the pages. Gives them defined boundries and line weights to make the image pop.

That, and inkers are so under-appreciated in the comic industry. X)!

But yeah, don't forget the traditional inksters. We like a little bit of lovin', too ;D

Alot of industries, including comics and manga, have gone to computerized inking. But I think manga artists more than anyone else still use traditional inks. By way of brushes, nibs, and india ink, or inking pens like zigs or microns. Personally, I find traditional inks more fulfilling and easier to work with, but I've learned to adapt to the digital method =) It's easier when you're working with other people on something, whether it be comics or collaborations ^^

lol, sorry, didnt see yours, i saw mings post as the first reply for some reason.

thanks alot, i dont think im gonna be great or anything, although with this comic planned im going to be getting ALOT of practice.

*nodnod* When you're doing something like that on a regular basis, you can bet your buns you're going to improve rather quickly. ^^ (as compared if you just messed around with it once in a while). Practice does make perfect, as they say.
