You are simply tempting me to use my power of Mod to smite thee aren't you Tobes....Well I'll be the bigger one and say that you can try all you want, but what's happened in these past two years? I'm hoping it's a sign of change finally coming around. |

I never said that the Mets were evil. The Braves, on the other hand, are. I really have no problem with the Mets except for the ones that you people started. And I don't think any other Yankees fan has a problem with the Mets. It's just this stupid rivalry brought upon by you (Rev), Ted, and Bryan because you have to complain because one NY team is OBVIOUSLY better than the other, and you just don't seem to want to accept that. So what if we have money? We didn't ALWAYS have money. Think...WAY back the Yanks were winning. It was only again in 1996 that they started on another winning streak, and everyone started b**ching that "Oh, they only win because they have money.. (sob, sob, our team sucks...)".
And it's not a matter of who's being the bigger person. Ok, I'll admit that the last two years the Yanks haven't gone on to win the Series, but they've come close. Maybe they won't win for a while. Honestly, I don't care. Actually, I hope they don't win, despite the fact that they do (and I will admit this) have a lot of money, this way you all shut the hell up about them only winning because they have money. A lot of other teams have a lot of money. Some do well, some don't. Why don't you go complain about OTHER teams who have lots of money and win?
And do me a favor...can the crap, it's old, and I'm serious...
Yanks > Mets
Clemens > Piazza
ME > YOU

What? You really are tempting me....
Oh, and remember that I never said you were wrong for liking the Yankees because you were from the Bronx. I respect that really and understand it. It's really the fault of your childhood. I mean, it's not like I can blaim your parents since I know that they are good people, so I place the blame solely on fait Not to mention that obviously you were brainwashed when it happened and had no real way of knowing the horror that came because of it.
As for the Franchise itself, my biggest problem is that it's been too dominating. It's the Necropetence of Major league baseball. It's consistently too powerful for the good of the division. Now perhaps if Boston ever got it's act together, or the Yankees didn't play the Devil Rays like 10-20 times a season, perhaps I'd feel better about the whole situation. I mean, plop the Yankees into the AL West for a season and see how they do. Or better yet, get rid of that atrocious Designated Hitter rule. Pitchers are baseball players too, they should be able to hit a ball with a bat at least some of the time.
So in closing, my problem is really that I want to take a lead pipe to Jeter's face, not to actual fans. |

What horror? The fact that I happen to like a *good* team? Sorry for liking something. I honestly don't know what's so wrong with liking the Yankees.
Quote: | As for the Franchise itself, my biggest problem is that it's been too dominating. |
So in reality, you have absolutely NO rational reason for not liking the Yankees. Basically, you (as well as all the other whiny Mets fans) are pissed because we win. I bet you wouldn't say that about the Chicago Bulls or the Dallas Cowboys, back when they dominated for a period of time. Boo hoo hoo, it's unfair that they're winning!
Quote: | Now perhaps if Boston ever got it's act together, or the Yankees didn't play the Devil Rays like 10-20 times a season |
Ummm...in case you haven't noticed, Boston IS a good team. Granted, they haven't actually gotten to the Series, but they're consistently towards the top, and have made the playoffs a good amount of times. And as for playing Tampa Bay, fine, I agree that we do play them a lot. But then again, that's a problem with baseball in general. They play too many games. And wait a sec...the Yankees have beaten other division teams in the playoffs. And since those teams are the BEST in those divisions, that means they beat all the other teams. And since the Yanks manage to beat the BEST of the respective other divisions, that means that your claim that the AL East is bad means absolutely NOTHING.
Quote: | Or better yet, get rid of that atrocious Designated Hitter rule. |
Now you're just looking for other things to argue against me about. Sure, I'll agree, it's a strange rule that probably shouldn't be there, but the Yanks didn't put it there, so stop trashing on them because of it. If our pitcher didn't hit your whiny little brat of a catcher who can't just suck it up and go on, you wouldn't complain about this because all you complaining Mets fans want to see Clemens get beaned by one of your "pitchers". And you think that you guys are so tough because your pitchers bat. Did you happen to realize that most NL pitchers SUCK at hitting? Honestly, I don't know what changing this will solve or prove, except for the fact that ALL pitchers CAN'T HIT.
Quote: | So in closing, my problem is really that I want to take a lead pipe to Jeter's face, not to actual fans. |
So explain to me what this solves? The only reason you want to do something to Jeter is because he's a) better than your SS and b) a Yankee c) happens to make a good amount of money . He's been playing for the Yanks since he was a rookie, before he made the big bucks. Why don't I hear you complaining about Nomar, who's also amazing, or ARod, who you should be complaining about because it's unfair how much money he makes. No, you need to complain about Derek Jeter, who does NOTHING to ANYONE and has done nothing to justify having his face hit with a pipe. If Jeter was on another team, you'd love him and you know it.
So stop trashing on the Yanks. They have done NOTHING to you. Hell, they're not even the ones who push the Mets out of Series every year (they do that themselves...), so you can't even say that they cause your team to lose.
This conversation is over...

And as if I hadn't already won this argument...
I just did some research.
ESPN.com
According to this, the Yanks may have have the highest payroll in baseball, but THE METS are second.
This just proves that you can no longer b**ch that the Yanks won because they have money. THE METS have lots of money also. I hate to do this to you, but they have more money than the Braves, who have consistently been better, which just goes to prove that having money means nothing.
Although maybe it does, it's just that the Mets are just too dumb to use it wisely. :nana:
Rev, I love ya, but you must admit that the evidence is right in front of you...

"It's a fair cop, but I blame it on society."
Likewise, I'll admit that I did not know about us having the second highest pay roll. I'm impressed. You're also right that I love insighting you with this because I can, pure and simple.
Now, as to what you were saying about the Cowboys and the Bulls, it's not a good comparison. In terms of the Cowboys, everyone save for Dallas fans pretty much hated their guts, and still do for that matter. It wasn't that they won all the time, it's that guys like Deon were jerks about it. On a side note I also loathe Terrel Owens for that, and hate the D-lineman showboating.
As for the Bulls, you know as well as I do that the only way that team was ever good was because it had Jordan as a linch pin. Okay, that and Phil Jackson. But Once Jordan left, they stopped winning championships. It's kinda like Tiger Woods, or the Williams Sisters. They are too dominating for the sport. I'd love it if there was some way to spread the power around baseball (Salary cap, wink wink) but it's not going to happen. I mean, look at football right now. This playoff season was wonderful because all the teams playing were pretty well matched.
But I digress. And anywho, the Mets/Yanks debate will never go away, much like Ohio State Michigan. And it's with that idea I leave you these words of wisdom.
