Ah.... hear it is again. That most special of days. A "Holiday" if you will. Even though it, in no way shape or form, resembles a holiday. No one is off work, no flags are flown at half mast, just a lot of flowers arrive at homes, offices, and schools around the country. Many of you are aware of the fact that my mother has owned and run a flourist for the majority of her life. What this means to me, is that every year since I got my liscence I have had the joy of participating in this holiday, which in case no one realized, is just the biggest day of the year for us. In the past few years I have come to help out alot more around the shop, whether that be financially or otherwise. Despite having my own job and attempting school. This post is by no means a bitch post. Because as much as I might bitch and gripe about having to deliver on my day off. It's honestly a joy. How can someone be grumpy when you get this kind of reaction out of people when they see you walk through the door. From seeing a little old ladies face light up when she opens her door, to walking into an office and hear the girls litterally squel with anticipation to see hear who its for. To hear the "awwwwww" from everyone when the recipeant open the card and reads it aloud.
It makes me sad when I hear people, my own friends among them, say how stupid or "morbid" giving flowers is. I think differently. I am a hopeless romantic, always have been, and I probably always will be. In fact there is a special someone that I considered sending flowers too this year, though due to recent events I opted to not, so as to not overstep my boundries. In hindsight I think I should have sent them anyways, but there is nothing I can do about it now.
Regardless, I opt to bring back Valentines day. It may not be a great holiday, but it can damn sure be a special one. Let that special someone in your life know just how you feel. Whether it be with flowers, jewelry, or just those 3 little words that some people wait so long to hear. Bring back the romance, bring back the love. |

<3 I'm not a big fan of cut flowers. This is primarily because I'm not fond of the idea of flowers that'll die after a week representing the love he's got for me. I'm a potted flower girl, though, so that'll still keep ya in business, once I start planting that garden (oh you just wait. When I start working again, there will be massive amounts of Tiger Lilies just about everywhere I can fit them, if I can find the darn things)
I agree, though, that there's nothing wrong with showing teh luff on V-day. I didn't hate that part of it even when I was single, as I'd share the day with my single friends and we'd hang out and get candy from each other or our families or something (my grandma always sends me a little money for V-day, and that can go to candy too. ^^) So, it's never been a big deal (particularly as I was set to be single for the rest of my life...*glare at Shino-sama* ^_-)
I just don't like the advertising that it's important to buy generic, thoughtless expensive gifts for people on this day. That's not at all what it's about! |

This post really has nothing to do with keeping us in business. In fact, I'd really wish she would get out of it. Because it is getting to the point to where people think it is a waste to spend money on flowers. And it doesnt offer much of a furture for her when I do decide to leave this poor excuse for a town. But this is beside the point. It seems, as the years have past, that Valentines has lost its luster. Lost the romantic effect. Not that this should be the only day people are romantic, just a day that people are romantic+1 (at least).
I've never had the pleasure of being in a relationship on VD, and usually spend it alone. However, it doesnt really bother me. Its the fact that it seems like just another day of the week to everyone that bothers me. I just think the day should mean a little more. Talking to me a couple days ago, you would have thought I hated this day with a firey passion. But something about today has changed my mind. Dunno what it was, I just have a different attitude all of a sudden. And I just felt like Expressing that feeling with all of you.
Happy Valentines day! (bah!! no flowery smileys) |

Hear Hear Faye!
You know I was always curious about the delivery folk who do that. I mean it's gotta be pretty nice to bring joy everywhere. (Thinks about changing professions).
I'm pretty close to broke on this day but I have something special up me sleeve to make up for it. ^_^
(I also recall one year I sent a bear to DeeVah and one to Sciler - that was really fun)
~le sigh~
Despite the pewpy day at work I've had (and just so's ya knows my honey didn't get me flowers - which is alright by me) the idea of wanting to spread kind words and love (even though today isn't the only day to do so) is just that much more fun. |

hehe...im glad im not the only hopeless romantic out there.
Well, me and you share the same thing Faye, but hey, its ok. I had a special someone, and it doesn't take valentine's day to show them the happiness...it takes the happiness to show them the happiness.
Im glad you spread teh happys around on this day, in which so many people bash it. Its kind of like christmas, where people get caught up in the material point of things. Its not like that. All you gotta do today is just love someone just as you love them every day, and you know what? Add a little bit into that.
*pats on back* Glad you had a good day senor...hope you have many mroe to come!

No way...Romance is excellent....and I don't think romance is ever hopeless personally
Well Sarah and I celebrate Valentines Day and White Day in the Japanese tradition. Essentially Valentine's Day (Feb 14) is a day ALL about the man. The man gets taken care of and such. Then White Day (March 14) is ALL about the woman. Again she gets taken care of and such.
I like it because it divide's the focus

Matt, you and ming know that I LOVE flowers!!! Especially when it's for nothing. And it's not that I'm against the thought of valentine's day or anything, it's just that I think that most days should be valentine's day. Granted not ALL days can be, but most of them can, and to me and ming that's what counts. It's not that we don't show our love for each other on VD, but we show it every day in different ways.
PS. If you feel the urge to send someone flowers and can't think of to whom....yours truly is always up for some beautiful flowers! hehe. |
