For a long time I have wanted to get a DS but now with the DSLite coming out I am just going to wait to get it then. I noticed that it is coming out right around when people will be getting Tax Refued checks ( which is what I am doing). Wonder if that is on accident. heh heh heh. |

I'm enjoying my "vintage" style DS <3. It's lovely. I'm not sure I could hold that little thing. I fumble my regular DS quite enough. It's fallen on cement, hard, school tile, the ground outside, my floor...and everywhere inbetween. And yes, my loves, it still proves true. Not a thing unworking. Although, I was a gameboy micro away from owning a specimien every Nintendo system ever made. But, redesigns don't count, right?  |

My dilemma is that my local Toys R Us is closing and they have everything in the store down to 70% off. They have the acc bundle for the DS (casem strap, headphones, etc) for $9 but I do plan on getting a DSL so the case (hard plastic) won't fit and that's the main thing I'm gonna want.
Oh, and I would agree with the durability issue but I've had three GBAs since Thanksgiving (one stolen, two broken) so I am really pissed. I've also dropkicked my GB before and had nothing happen but the last one had a cracked screen (while it was still closed) and the one I have now only plays GBC games, no Advance games. That's what's made me interested in getting a DS in the first place. I don't know how smart it is to get another GBA at this point, tho I do love the system.
In a "might be a coincidence" tho, the last two (the ones that failed structurally) were both bought at Walmart. Hmm...  |

When it comes to GB install base and GB sales, why sales will outnumber it, i'm going to say not by much. Reason: used sales.
Used GBAs. depending where you live, fly out the door like free non commital sex. At least that seems to be the case with SP's here.
I'll probably end up buyign a DS light, if only because I've kinda been a little harsh on my DS's screen to the point where it's getting visible during play <_< that and I like the smaller size/better brightness :3 |

Here's a more telling comparison. The DS Lite seems to supercede everything the original model does and my god, is the screen brighter! That's the selliong point for me now as this weekend I took out my NeoGeo Pocket Color to smash thru a games of Card Fighter and forgot how much I had to tilt it to find a god light source. The GBA SP has spoiled me and, sorry to say, I need that now.
I still don't think anyone has a concrete sell date for the DSL but I'll wait for it. By then, the games I want that are out now will all be $20 or so also. |

Nintendo's DS Lite has been hot property in Japan. The second iteration of the dual-screened handheld was released in Nintendo's home country in early March, and immediately sold out. Nintendo has struggled to meet consumer demand for the portable, which is a lighter, brighter version of its mega-successful DS.
American gamers have long wondered when they too will be able to endure long lines and wait for hours on end to get their hands on the new portable, and the struggles to make enough DS Lites for Japan has done nothing to get their hopes up. However, with production of the portable recently ramped up, Nintendo fans can finally let out a collective sigh of relief.
The DS Lite will make its debut in North America on June 11. [UPDATE] The unit will be priced at $129.99, the same price as the current DS, not $149 as previously reported. (GameSpot regrets the error.) Though the DS Lite has been released in white and two shades of blue in Japan, the handheld will only be available in "polar white" for the US launch. This doesn't necessarily mean it will be long until DS Lite owners get the blues--Japan's DS Lite launch was also restricted to one color, with the blue hues following one week later.
Many gamers had speculated that the DS Lite would be released alongside a high-profile DS game. Some targeted the launch of New Super Mario Bros., now scheduled for May 15, as a good opportunity for Nintendo to spur sales of the handheld and the game, but that isn't the case. In fact, no DS games are presently scheduled for release during the week. However, the DS Lite launch will occur one week after two potentially big sellers are released--THQ's Cars and Nintendo's Big Brain Academy.
Nintendo UK would not comment on release dates for the DS Lite outside the US.
Nintendo has not yet revealed the fate of the current DS model. But, like previous Nintendo handhelds, collectors should take note that it will likely be phased out in the near future.
