I'm pretty sure 17 is statutory in any state. He'll have to be registered as a sex offender everywhere he goes for the rest of his live.
Unfortunately what Gazz said is true. If you have 100% custody he doesn't have to pay child support. But, from what you've described, he doesn't seem like the type to want to see the child anyway.

Mrs. Hiroki was 19 when we had our first little one. She graduated High School with a huge preggy belly. Sure I was scared, I'd just graduated the year before. But we stuck with it and with each other and made it work. This guy you got here is complete scum. You did the right thing by leaving him and you're doing the right thing by not letting him have contact with your child. And I say YOUR child because when he treated you the way he did he forfieted all rights to the baby. I have no pity for him. None at all.

On the up side, you have an entire family of PO'ers here who will help you in anyway possible. I know you probably don't know me. I haven't been on that long. But I'm a good listener and I've been through a lot of crap. Feel free to PM me if you need to vent.

Sammy I cant say anything that the wonderfull people here havn't already said. But know that I will always be here for your and I know that Deanna is too. I know that you are srong enough for this and that that bastard will get whats coming to him.

Just to throw my 2 cents in here - to clarify the idea of "100% custody = 0 Child Support" is if the court agrees that the father should not have any legal right to the child, thus also absolving him of any legal obligation to the child. This can be done by having him consent to relinquish his parental rights (which I may actually be doing in the case of my own son), or by pleading with the court on grounds of abuse, dereliction, and potential harm to the child. It's really sticky, so get yourself a good lawyer, and perhaps some books on the subject (I recommend ones published via NoLo). Your mileage may vary by state, of course. I wish you and your child the best.

I have a friend who's going through (sort of) the same thing. She got accidentally pregnant, but she LEFT the father, because she decided she didn't love him anymore and didn't want to put the child through the complications of a loveless relationship. She's going to be a single mom, living with her parents. Also, my mom left my dad when I was little, and she was a single mother for a while too, she also had my sister along for the ride. Anyway, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here for you, I may not be in the same predicament, but I can lend an ear if you need it, and won't judge you, since I know many people who have been single moms. Also, I agree with all of the PO's here when I say that man is total crap.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot in my lawyerish rant (I'm not a lawyer yet) to get in my 2 cents about the male genetic material source. I think it goes as follows...

Castration by Olive Garden cheese grater is too nice for him. It's one thing to father a child, be there for a bit, then realize that the situation cannot possibly work (including that you cannot possibly be good for the child), but to get someone pregnant then run before the kid's even born is horrific.

yeah i know.. well i dont know much about virginia commonwealth laws but i know that they are backwards sometimes.. im going to talk to someone this coming week to figure it all out and make sure that i can do my best to keep this guy away from my little boy
