I agree with Tobs, if you are going to leave make sure you find another job and the notice. And if it makes you feel any better I'm going to be working 5 and 6 day work weeks to keep my 40hrs at work so I can afford to live. |

With Cracker Barrel I probably won't give a full two weeks notice. And unfortunately we don't have the kind of group it sounds like you do. I essayed yesterday (set up food in the window) and I had to fight to make people run other servers food instead of just standing there in my way. Cracker Barrel is all about policies and rules and sometimes I think I'm the only one that follows them. While I will call and let them know I've found another position, It probably won't be two weeks before I leave. But with Cracker Barrel, that keeps you from being blacklisted, and when there are thirty+ servers it's not such a hardship. |

If the food service thing is your bag I used to work at two Outback stake houses (not at the same time) and nearly all the people there were very easy to get along with. It's one of the very few jobs I had where there was no "office politics" involved. Plus I got to eat cheese fries everyday!
There's no Outback here. *sad* I miss cheese fries. *cries* |

hehe...if you talk to Ming, he's also an avid outbacker.
As far as the two weeks notice thing: It'll keep your manager's also from making your last days there a living hell. |

Yeah, if you can find yourself an Outback, it's a really fun place to work. I worked at one for close to a year, and I may be going back to it soon since I can't seem to find a job otherwise. The people were really great, the atmosphere is cool, and you make a TON of money. Well, at least I did.
Oh yeah...and then there are the cheese fries.... |

Yeah my job has it's hard parts to. I work (well as a youth pastor but that is not what I am talking about right now) as a parapro at East Paulding High School. Well we have to change the diapers of some of our students and not to get too graphic sometimes it gets bad....really really bad. |

What I'm saying with CB though, it that what I've heard from most people is that so long as you tell them you're leaving, they're cool. If I just didn't show up that'd be different. It's not going to be a problem to replace my shift. They hire atleast four new servers every month. Yet another reason why you can't make any money. Could any of you who've ever waited tables before imagine having 15-18 servers on the floor at once? We have about fifty tables but when you can only seat a max of 8 people in your section it's hard to make money. |

Yeah that sounds like it'd be difficult to make any money with that small of a seating area. As far at the two week notice, genarally employers will call your last job and ask performance questions and one of the questions they almost always ask is "did you leave on good terms?" If you just up and leave you're probably not going to get a good reference.
However, if you have an issue with the management or you feel you will be treated unfairly if you give a notice then screw them and just leave. I walked out on the job I had before Outback and when I was applying for the job there they asked me why I didn't give notice when I quit. I told them it was because I had issues with the manager. He was a total ass but that's neither here nor there.
I'm rambling. The point is if you value the good reference and you're not going to have any issues with the management it's always a good idea to give notice. |

It may seem like a big hassle, but with some patience and persverence you'll find that things will work out better than you hope for. Potential employers will always keep an eye on qualities like that even if it doesn't look like it. |

Legally, they're not allowed to ask questions like that. All they can ask is if I was employed there and if the manager has anything they'd like to share. CB's manegement then can't give me a bad review because I can sue. Also, I'm not leaving until I have another job. I would give a week's notice, as in finish out my shifts on the schedule but then not be scheduled again. Our schedules run for one week, sat-fri. Next one comes out on thursday. |
