I do that on a regular basis, although it's intentional. I enjoy letting the gas build up, then creating a huge fireball spectacle while lighting the grill. The difference is that I know that it's coming, and if I'm not intentionally trying to do something like that, I'll be sure to turn everything off. Although, I will probably learn my lesson sooner or later.
Speaking of grills...to clean ours when I'm done cooking on it, I usually like to close the lid and turn the fire up all the way and leave it for a few minutes, that way it basically cooks everything off the actual grill, and whatever it doesn't get gets carbonized and easily scrapes off. There was this one time, however, that I left it for too long. When I returned, there was black smoke billowing out of the sides of the grill and when I opened it (carefully of course) there was a roaring, deep orange grease fire which was so hot, I managed to melt some of the paint on the side of the house.
I love outdoor cooking.

You people scare me. How come sooooooooooo many of y'all know what it's like to be shocked with a taser made from a disposable camera? I stuck a screw driver in a light socket when I was 9 and (don't ask me why) decided to turn it on. Not a happy experience. I've not been too fond of electricity since. *shudder* |

If you want a REAL cool fire then make my Jalepeno poppers on a grill...Fun times.
However you shouldn't clean the grill every time you cook on it. Part of the flavor comes from seasoning the racks...Much like a cast iron skillet.
You should only clean the grill right before you use it so the seasoning can set from the previous time you cooked on the grill. |
