Ghosts 'n Goblins to haunt PSPs
Capcom is remaking its spooky arcade classic for Sony's handheld; ex-Resident Evil contributor on board to direct.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom is making a new Ghosts 'n Goblins game for Japanese PSPs. Titled Goku Makai-Mura, the game will be a modern-day take on the 1985 arcade game. Goku Makai-Mura is being directed by the series' founder, Tokurou Fujiwara, who previously worked on Resident Evil and other popular franchises at Capcom.

Goku Makai-Mura will pay homage to the original game by retaining the side-scrolling format, something lost in the Ghosts 'n Goblins-based Maximo series for the PlayStation 2. The armored knight Arthur returns once again, and like in previous Ghosts 'n Goblins games, a few direct attacks will reduce him to prancing around in his skivvies. Arthur will be challenged to defeat enemies in an effort to advance through levels riddled with graveyard spooks. Like in previous releases, various weapon power-ups and magic bonuses will be scattered throughout the levels.

There will be several new facets to the game as well, most notably the addition of 3D graphics. While Ghosts 'n Goblins has traditionally been linear in that players start at one point and advance from stage to stage, gamers can choose paths between levels. Arthur will be able to pick up new items and acquire moves (such as double jumping) as he advances through stages. Outfitted with new skills and weapons, players can return to older stages to uncover secrets and explore previously unexplored areas.

GameSpot will have more on the game when it is shown at the Tokyo Game Show. No release date has been set for Goku Makai-Mura.

And! it's a brand new game. Will use a similar (if not the same) engine as the Megaman remakes. AND YOU CAN THROW YOUR WEAPON UPWARD! Yay!

Oh I'm all over this one!

Ghosts 'n Goblins to spook US PSPs
Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins will see the classic franchise debut on Sony portables stateside in Q3 2006.

Last August, Famitsu first revealed that Capcom was developing Ghosts 'n Goblins for the PlayStation Portable. However, in the interim, no North American release information was divulged by the Japanese publisher, making many wonder if the game also known as Goku Makaimura would arrive stateside.

As it turns out, American Ghosts 'n Goblins fans are in luck. Capcom today announced that the game will be released in the US under the title Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins. Set for a third-quarter ship, the game updates the infamously challenging side-scrolling series with a new plot that follows franchise hero Sir Arthur on an all-new adventure. This time around, the knight will do his best to save a princess while fighting off a horde of various undead beasties.

Though a side-scrolling adventure, Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins is based on a 3D graphics engine, providing for more-detailed characters and environments. It will also have a branching storyline that will see Arthur pick up new objects to take on new foes across five stages, each with a boss battle at the end.

GameSpot got some hands-on time with the Japanese version of Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins--check out our impressions for more information on the game.

Capcom's portable remake of arcade classic moves up a week, now slated to ship next Tuesday.

The recent trend of retro game compilations and remakes has put many gamers in the awkward position of having to look forward to something they already played to death decades ago. Capcom apparently understands this, as the publisher is moving up the release of its PlayStation Portable action game Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins.

A revamped take on the company's classic Ghosts n' Goblins arcade game, Ultimate Ghosts n' Goblins is now scheduled to ship next Tuesday, August 29, instead of in the first week of September, as previously expected.

The game updates the infamously challenging adventure with a 3D graphics engine (the gameplay remains a side-scrolling affair), branching storyline, and more detailed characters and environments. The adventure will see franchise hero Arthur traverse five stages (complete with bosses) in his quest to save the princess.
