Here are actual photos of the lines that people stood on to get the game in Japan on release day. The reported numbers are over 900thou combined copies sold the first day, 2 mil over the weekend. Over 500thou DS's also were sold that weekend.
I'm hoping I can get my Wii, DSLite, and Diamond or Pearl all in one shot. My car's paid for and who needs to pay rent anyway?

And the *official* numbers are...
"Nintendo has sold over 1.5 million copies of its hits NDS RPG Pokemon Diamond & Pearl in Japan since the game released on September 28. Pokemon Diamond sold 813,237 units, while Pokemon Pearl sold 762,029 units."
I am so glad I don't live in Japan and have to stand on those lines. 
I am so glad that Pokemon "has died" here in the U.S.
I am so glad my GBA gets returned today form Nintendo repairing it.
I am mildly glad I have Pokemon Mystery Dungeon to tide me over until the real Pokemon games get released here. It's a really...wierd game.  |

I don't know if I should get it. Pokemon Red ate up so many hours of study hall. Not that that is a bad thing, but I also spent countless hours leveling my all dragon team on teenage weekend that I could have spent causing mischief and downloading explicit material....I did that anyway, but I could have done it more if it weren't for pokemon. |

What a gall dern minute. Pokemon isn't dead. I almost got killed by a mob of angry Pokemanics because we didn't have the Mystery Mew giveaway at work.
