As I read, these are more rural farmers with out access to heavy equipment rental depots and if they did have no money to spend on such frivilous equipment. There is obviously no reprecussion from the law and the land needs to be cleared. The law arent going to shut down farmers, they rely on the crop, and they have no money to fine them for.

Its a sad situation but its more of a social and economic condition than a simple matter of finding a new clearing solution. One could even go so far as to argue that theres little wrong with them using a cheap, natural method to clear their lands for farm use and provide a living for themselves.

Like I said, its a situation. Hopefully Malay and Indonesian leaders will find a solution.

You may be right Dai, but this goes on every year. And from the article it states that it causes huge economic problems every year. Why would they have waited this long. For once, I'm with Reaper, Its a complete lack of respect.

I really do hate to do this but...man has been burning wood since the beginning...of man. Since the moment he figured out how to do it, he did it. Wood burning has gone on in mass amounts of the past several thousand years. Native Americans would do it when the forest became overgrown as to not have a natural forest fire...much like the ones in Cali now. Slash and Burn is very effective and despite the "research" that has been shown, ash is one of the best fertilizers we have when mixed with other natural chemicals like animal dung.

Now, I do think it sucks that this is happening to effect such a large number of people in a city but...thus is the price of population increase and modernization. I mean it really does suck but it's kinda the price we pay for electricity and computers.

We could always go back to small tribe life style, cutting the population by 60% and living by hunting and gathering. Could work, but who would want to.

Besides, the "Hole in the Ozone" is a croc anyway. We know for a "fact" that over the life cycle of the earth it has had Ice Age after Ice Age and that they lasted several thousand years a piece. We alson know man lived through them all. Get ready for the next one, mother earth is due for her colonic.

Whats that about Razz Rolling Eyes

btw I am not an eco nut saying that burning of wood should be stopped, mearly stateing that it isn't good for air quality. Just cause something has been done all through human history doesn't mean it's "good"

I agree that it should be stopped, but how do you stop several thousand interant farmers from burning on their land a country and ocean away? Thats what I mean by its a situation. Saying its a lack of respect is more like something Id say about my neighboor or a coworker than say...Indonesia. Now if Indoesia is talkin smack about my momma, thats some disrespect.

>_>

I punch Indo up in its grill. Ya heeeeeeer.
