I know the feeling Katana, Gratz.
I dont even think that if I lived in a place with good Public transportation, I could do it. Something about owning a vehicle that goes along with self sufficiency. With a car you decide when and where you go. When you use public transportation, you have to go on someon elses schedule and thats just an inconvience. |

Congrats on the new car Katana! Regarding your brake pads, that's not even considered a "problem"...that's just routine maintenece.

I agree that having your own vehicle gives you a sense of self sufficiency, and it gives you a sense that you're in charge. However, public transportation (particularly in a big city like New York) runs very frequently, so you never really get the feeling that you're on someone else's schedule. But still, having your own means of transportation is great.

It really depends on the state, I think. In Connecticut, for example, you can get your learner's permit when you turn 16, and then you have to wait at least 4 or 6 months (depending on whether you take Driver's Ed or not) to take your licence test.
Regarding stick vs. auto...I can do both. Right now I drive primarily stick. |

In most states, you get a permit at 15 that allows you to drive, but you have to have a liscenced driver over the age of 19 in the car with you.
At 16 you take your road test and, if you pass, get a liscence to drive wherever and whenever you want.  |

Thats so cool.. here, for car license at 18 and motorcycle at 16 but we can't drive auto car for driving/road test so we are trained to drive manual/stick so once we get our license is up to us to drive manual or auto car..
I can drive both but right now I'm driving stick. |
