Says there will be a replacement service.
However, they are lithium batteries which makes me think it will be a long time before this service will be needed.
No cost has been mentioned.

The PlayStation 3's wireless controllers may eventually fail to hold a charge, but Sony will reportedly provide a replacement service.

UK trade site GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that Sony has a solution to concerns about the PlayStation 3 controller's rechargeable batteries. With no way for users to access the controller's battery compartment to replace them if they eventually fail to hold a charge, there was some concern about what would happen to such controllers.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, a Sony representative told the site that the electronics giant "will provide a service to replace wireless PS3 controllers 'when and if' their lithium batteries degrade." The representative added that it would be many years before the batteries degraded. There was no indication as to how much--if anything--Sony would charge for the service.
Attempts to confirm the replacement policy with American Sony reps were unsuccessful as of press time. However, any such service would presumably be similar to the company's replacement of PlayStation 2s suffering from the dreaded "Disc Read Error." That requires a call to SCEA Consumer Service at 1-800-345-SONY (7669) or a visit to its Online customer service center. |

First, it's no longer a batterang as the design now looks exactly like the ps2 controller.
Second... I wouldn't count on that since I got my ps2 repaired for free 4 years after I got it.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised to have them come out with rechargeable battery packs for the Wii either officially or from a third party. |

It would make sense. I hope they do. |

Interact or Pelican surely will and while I usually don't like Pelican's designs, I think a batterypack won't be too bad. There was an article on one of the sites that shows how third party manufacturers are having it great nowadays. It seems all of the consoles come out now with so many crappy peripherals or designs (especially in terms of cooling) that it's like "found money" for them. Just fix the holes and they don't have to spend money on R&D for the console. Kinda like living off of making tires and not the cars themselves. |

On that topic, I agree with you Razer.
From my retail experience I can say that most people prefer third party accessories because they are either A) cheaper or B) there is no competition (in the case of the Intercooler for Xbox 360). We've sold so many intercoolers it's really rediculous. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't taken it on themselves to create -some- kind of competition. |

Well think of the ps3 controller
How many 3rd parties are going to make a ps3 controller with rumble?
People will flock to it. |

Especially since (the company that owns the patent) said that they can fit rumble tech into the existing model with no problem. I think it was in one of the mags (Game Informer, maybe?) that they said they have a controller now for a third party that has "all of the same features" as the PS2 controleer with rumble al ready to go.
Sony...another way to say Bonehead mistake.
"Damn, now you made us lose the game! How come you didn't run?"
"I don't know, I guess I pulled a Sony." |
