Well that's the rub. It would be good business practice if you kept on top of things and delivered quality products but when you have your cutomers needing to update the product before they even get it home, it's a bit retarded. What about the ucutomers who do not have a broadband connection or aren't able to update their firmware somehow? Six months, a year down the line, it's ok. But to buy something and then be required to "fix it" before you even use it just to get it up to snuff is inexcusable to me. I'm old school, when I buy something I want it to work. It's not like I can pick up a PS3 and then send Sony the money in three months when I'm satisfied with it. |

Having something work out of the box is a good point...but its not like the console won't work w/o it. Not having it preloaded is a fault on thier part depending on the time and cost it would take for them to do that now so late in the game. But not preloading it also tends to help with the unknown factor of how popular the movie downloads will be.
Chances are pretty likely that if someone who is buying the console right at release does, as stated previously, fall into the hardcore gamer catagory and most likely has a high enough bandwidth to download the software and has most likely been downloading music and movies off the net for quite a while now...
I've seen it from the inside as to how things usually don't turn out as planned. It happens, and unfortunatly, it happens a lot. Business has changed from creating a fully-functioning, high quality product to just get something that works out there now and we'll fix it later. If I had a real say in how business was run, I'd say to slow down and take time to do something right the first time...but that would be logical and make sense. I wonder where all the logic and sense goes during the timeline of projects...it would probably make a diffenrence if we could pull some of the execs down into the trenches so they'll understand what's involved in achieving even a small thing.
As Captain Picard would say "Make it so"...yeah, you try and see what the crew has to do to make that happen. |
