As you're all no doubt aware, US gamers are queueing outside stores in the vain hope that theres a PS3 available to buy today.
Although its more or less obvious that they've all been pre-order, but I'm not 100% sure how the US pre-order system works, common sense says they wouldnt take pre-orders on stock they know they're not going to have, but then again, if you're having to take down a deposit, then thats more money for them, until they have to pay it back!
Anyway, the stories from the queues have been coming in thick and fast.
___________
Apparently theres a woman in line outside a Circuit City in Mount Laurel, New Jersey who has gone into labour but is refusing to move until she has a PS3. Is this how stupid the world has become, that someone is willing to risk theirs and their soon to be born childs life all in the name of some digital entertainment?
"Nine months pregnant, Julie Mosley said she tried to ignore her contractions for the chance to score machines for her family, her daughter's father and her younger brother."
Sorry dear, but they've all been pre-ordered and your willing to risk your child getting pneumonia as soon as its born, if this console is so important to these people that they're willing to put you at risk aswell as your child, then they also need a reality check!
_____________
A small fight broke out outside a Sony store in New York mid queue
______________
eBay have banned Brits from importing PS3's
______________
In Lexington in Kentucky, 3 people in line and a news reporter were shot with a BB gun from a "drive-by" shooter.
I don't whats the most saddening thing there, the fact these guys were there for over 24 hours before the launch, the news reporter being in attendance, the fact someone thought it would befun to do a drive by shooting, or the fact it was only a BB gun they used.
_______________
Anymore PS3 queue stories email them to ps3launch@gamepulse.co.uk |

Chances are that wasn't because of the PS3 but more because a huge line of sitting ducks was easy pickings. |

Best Buy and a few other stores don't do pre-orders on consoles, we go by a first-come/first-serve basis. However, Gamestop and EB are horrible at taking pre-orders and that only meaning you get first pick when it's out. There have been a number of times when they did more pre-orders than they recieved product. Before working for Best Buy, I pre-ordered from Gamestop for all major releases; I actually had a conversation that went something like
Clerk: I'm sorry, but we're completely sold out.
Me: But I have a pre-order, you were supposed to hold one for me.
Clerk: Sorry, but we didn't get enough in to fullfill all the pre-orders. We should have more in by the end of the week, though. Would you like to pre-order *insert another coming soon title here*?
I never pre-ordered again... except for Halo 2, but that pre-order went down the same day I got it... I just got there early enough to pick it up without needing to camp. |

Star 94 was camped out at the Best Buy in Atlanta where there was a line of 56 people waiting to buy them. The first dozen were Ga Tech students who had camped out there all week for it, skipping classes all week.
The bigget laugh I got out of it was hearing on my way to work that only the first 20 people in line got consoles at that location.
Granted, I'm biased against GaTech...I'm an SPSU (Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta) alum and my fiance can confirm that he does not know a single SPSU student who isn't going to wait till later to get the system. But come on! Use some common sense. Stores will only receive a limited number of units and you know that the beginning rush is when they will cost the most....not tomention the fact that the first release of a product typically has the most bugs to it. |

I doubt any of this stuff will happen over here come March (*cough* November 07 more like*cough*
Gamestation take mroe pre-orders than they have stock for, but GAME have become more sensible. They wait till they know what theyre getting in and then take pre-orders. Hell Gamestation have had a folder full of pre-orders for all the systems since last years E3 (including the 360 before it was released).
And yeah, Shurikane, it had nothing to ACTUALLY do with the PS3, but with the morons queuing for it. |

Meh, the only kind of pre-orders I'm willing to do are the free kind. Media Play used to do that in the beginning...then moved to a % down...I really miss that store, they went out of business last year. But at least on a positive side, I doubled my anime collection with their sales-----90% off anyone? |

Well who are the smart ones then... that is the question?
Edit Shino: Fawkes, this is not a shot at you. After rereading it kinda sounds like it. Just stating that what they are doing is actually a pretty smart move if you can make 10X your money.
I feel stupid that I DIDN'Tt camp out for one after seeing this.
I would put 20 bucks on the fact that at least half the guys camping out were selling theirs.
Making 10X your money is quite a feat.
You have been teh spellchecked! Because feet are smelly, but feats aren't. |

We had a group of tents that went up sometime Wednesday outside one of the Walmarts. They did post a sign on the door that they only had 16 units (tho that was a lie to prevent people from fighting. They actually had 16 of each package). Altho they did sell out, there was no noteworty events surrounding it. Awww.
I didn't even look at it like a console launch. Basically the "PS3 launch" is more like a J C Penney Two-hour sale. Why even bother to spend advertising money if you have like 15? Best Buy had the best shtick tho where if you buy a HD TV thaen you can reserve a PS3 (apparantly when the NEXT shipment comes in). That's pure genius. Getting people to preorder something that they don't have any idea at all when they're gonna get.
Ina related note, that Walmart is getting 62 Wiis so I hope to be playing all day Monday (my day off). WHOO HOO!
or should I say
WII HEE! |
