I say go for it. Not only because it would be fun, or look good in your portfolio; but because it would be good exercise. If this is even remotely close to what you would like to be doing for the rest of your life, then participating in this class will give you good hands on knowledge of what you need to accomplish. Some of the best classes I took (and most fun) when I was studying Audio Engineering had me actually doing what I was learning instead of just hearing someone talk about it. |

I'm gonna hop on the bandwagon and say you should try it out. I know that I've been looking for oppertunities to do this type of thing, and i've instead started to try to make my own graphic novel. But the fact that you can work with a professor, get experience, AND get a citing of publication in the book is kind of nice. I know im gonna try to do that with some student films going on around campus this fall/spring.
Also, take the extra time and get all the work done. Don't be like me and try to get TWO majors done in a 4 year period...its quite stupid, but i have a set plan and goal...it doesn't seem like anything is quite down pat as you had wanted it to be.
Anywho, teh tobs hath spoken. |

Cool! You know a lot about HP!!! You should totaly do it. ^.^ It's a once in a lifetime type of thing right? And it's a chance to get one of your works out into the open. To have something you did actually published. That would be awesome. I know I'm not in college, so I can't really offer anything in the way of scholastic advice. But if you think you'll really enjoy the class (and it sounds like you'd have a hella awesome time) then why not go for it? Opportunities like these don't just present themselves every day. |

Probably a little late, but, hey, two cents never hurt, right?
Here's my point of view: If you can make it work out monitarily (if that means working it out with the folks, scholarship, etc.) then you should do it. So much of school is stuff that you don't want to do, but have to because it's required. If you can take courses that you like, that will be beneficial to you personally, and you can make all the numbers come out right in the end, then I say go for it. I WISH I had the opprptunity to do more at school, to be a part of some of the Theatre stuff that is going on around the campus, and I can't. If you CAN, then DO. But do not forget that if taking this class means not getting your degree then it's probably not worth it. A degree, while only a piece of paper, is important, and vital in our society.
Otherwise, I'd say it sounds great! I'd also agree with Fawkes. Get a letter of commendation and make sure you're acredited in the book itself before using any material therein for a portfolio. People freak out about that kind of thing. Especially schools and publishers.

Oh, it won't prevent me from getting my degree- just means I'll get it later.
And I now have the go-ahead, so that's what I"ll be doing. I may also be doing my Internship, or trying to hold a proper job at the same time. |
