Oh, I thought that was pure doom in sound form... Laughing

Anyway, apparently some other friends I've seen over the week have been having all manner of grave missfortunes... Mostly the gaming group I was meeting with last week when all this started. It just seems like too many coincidences. Confused

Suki, for those interested, just had a not-so-properly-functioning harddrive. It could be fixed, but apparently if it's fixed something else will just break given a little time, etc etc....so we just ordered a new harddrive.

Honestly, I'm less worried knowing this, because the same thing happened to my first computer (Semirhage) in about the same amount of time after I got her...and she functioned beautifully until I went for the upgrade to Drizzt. (About what, three years or so, I think?)

reverse technomancy....the illness

aparently it passed to me today as i tried to get home to get some HW done. i go and try to get gas as i am almost out. i discover my card was missing and i am only to use the suntrust one in emergencies. so i start driving to QT just down the road to use a check and the truck goes dead .5 miles from the racetrac i just left. so i have to walk and get more gas to go get gas wasting an hour of solid walking... why me... Neutral Help

And the head-smacking part is that you left work early to do this homework...but still got home around the same time b/c of it all.

This also kinda happened about 5 minutes after I suggested he put a gallon or two in to make sure he didn't run out. Twisted Evil

My advice is good, eh? Cool

Glad to hear it was an easier fix for Suki, I've seen some amazing prices for them lately. I think the magic number is around 2-3 years before something goes funky.

My home laptop has a busted CD drive, and my work Laptop is in need of RAM since it crashes in word when I overstep its multitasking abilities.

Both have been great little laptops though...I get upgraded this summer when my laptop lease is up at work...and If I give into tempation, I may take advantage of the prices and get another laptop for home...but then again, there's Vista to deal with now.

*sigh* unfortunately, the fix wasn't actually as easy as it sounded.

The CD Drive is incredibly picky. It'll read some CD's, and others it just can't seem to find. I didn't really have much trouble with this before, as the only time it even mattered was when I was installing the various Sims 2 expansions on it and some of them didn't work. But y'know, you get over that quickly enough. You can still play the game without the expansions, afterall.

Unfortunately, the CD drive also has decided it can't read the Recovery Disk. We tried installing another version of Windows on it, but Suki still gives off errors when we do.

Our next thought is to try and either borrow a CD drive from a guy we know who does computer stuff (or see if my sister's laptop CD drive will work on it) and use that to install the recovery information on it...or possibly get a new CD drive, but considering those are 100$ and we just had to shell out 80$ for the harddrive, and my sister's car got a flat which she drove on so the rim had to be replaced, and my mom's van's transmission is dead and it'll cost about 2000$ if we bothered fixing it (which we won't, as it's a piece of crap that's already sucked down enough extra expense, we're looking at a new car instead, but that's again money) and yeah. Probably before we do that I'll send it to my dad's computer friend to have him look at it and diagnose or maybe to Best Buy, but they seem to be incredibly overpriced for their services (they wanted 99$ to recover the information from my old harddrive, and I really only wanted one file) so who knows?

But the point is that...er...well, Suki still isn't working, god knows what's wrong with her, and I'm not sure even he knows when the damn thing is going to be fixed.

If you need help with Vista, I have lots of fire with which to kill it. Twisted Evil

That is to say, downgrade to Win2k and let your RAM be free.

... Though with my luck, it would still involve fire...

... On second thought, you don't want me near any new computers... Confused

Do not deal with Vista at all right now. At least that's my professional opinion. Wait until the first Service Pack comes out. There's no use in upgrading.

Legend, let me know what your dad says about everything and if there is anything else I can do to help.
