Mason is being held on $15,000 bail.

Doesnt this make you feel safe? Teachers are supposed to help watch your kids while they are there. Religious people are supposed to take care of those around them.
And he can be out of jail for only $15k...what kind of price is that? Who sets these retarded prices >_< Why is he even allowed to leave? Meh, I dont understand it, I really dont.
Can we please breed more people in society with COMMON SENSE?

Sorry, thats why I had the warning
The guy who did all that stuff, his Defense attorneys are trying to see if he can get out of the Death Penalty because he's "mentally retarded", but the prosecution (I think thats the other side lol) is saying that technically, hes higher than what is considered mentally retarded, and they have talked to people at past jobs he's had and said he's done an outstanding job when he was there working, on construction sites and whatnot, doing more than he was expected to.
I hope this guy gets the death penalty, he deserves it. Its not like he will die right away anyways...seems to take like 18+ years for someone to actually get thier judgement =\ WTF is up with that?
Also, how can the people defending him do that? I mean, do they just have no conscience or soul? Makes me think of that one Keanu Reaves movie with Al Pacino as the Devil lol....Devil's Advocate or whatever. |

I actually hope he escapes the death penalty, only because on average it costs more to carry out the death penalty (because of the appeal cycle, a good amount of which seems to be about trying to overturn the sentence, not the verdict) than it does to just let them rot. |

Thankfully the jurors are suggesting teh death penalty, 10-2. Now its the judge's final decision if thats to be done...

With all do respect, you up-bringing can truly effect you in some horrible ways. Depending on the severity of beatings and lack of nutrition, it really could have given him a disorder and he truly didn't know any better. On the other hand, he should never be released back into society. And if he is that mentally incapable, I know this sounds wrong, but maybe they should do what they do with sick animals...put him down. |

If he can be proven to have a psychiatric illness that causes psychotic episodes, particularly ones with limited self-awareness (partial blackouts), it may not be so black and white, really. Then we get into the questions of availability of diagnostic therapy, care, and treatment prior to his crime, how in control of himself he could have been during certain episodes (no doubt the sleep-driving cases will be dredged up again), and whether or not he can legally, morally, and/or ethically be held responsible for a crime he didn't know he was committing.
Of course, considering that it doesn't appear as if testimony attempting to prove that he was susceptible to blacked-out psychotic episodes was brought forth during the trial, I'm figuring that this is a last-ditch effort on the part of the PD. Not to keep him from getting the death penalty, but to get a foot in the door for the automatic appeal Couey now has.
No, you're not reading me wrong, I just argued both sides of the issue. |
