"Microsoft's group product manager for Xbox and the Live platform, John Rodman, recently took a stab at [the Wii]. According to a report by Daily Tech, Rodman insinuated that gamers would outgrow Nintendo's new console just as soon as their voices started to change.

"We don't feel like the Wii customer and the Xbox customer are the same thing," Rodman reportedly said. "We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14, they want something else." "

That is as assinine a statement as you can utter. While it may have had some legs targetting the N64 or Gamecube, the Wii has shown that it is effectively targetting gamers WAY BEYOND the normal age range. I'd venture to say that the Wii has had more people over the age of 40 play it in it's short lifespan so far than both the XBox & XBox 360 combined.

On the contrary, I believe the system that is most limited by age range is the XBox. I think they do reach that target demographic of males aged 21-35 but I believe that is also the ceiling for it. I don't see XB customers above that age range browsing stores much at all. Personally I believe that game consoles in total have expanded the age demographic enourmously on the whole. But this is just my opinion, I could be as wrong as he is...nah, I doubt it.

Wow... just... Wow.

At least Sony just said it was a fad.
MS comes out and insults those who have purchased the system.

Got a link for this Raze?

Meh, no one here disenchanted with the Wii yet? don't get me wrong, I want one, but theres nothing on it so far thats a Mus Have for me, the only gam I'm REALLY REALLY looking forward to is No More Heroes.

Likewise, the PS3 only has FFXIII and MGS4, the 360 has a fair bit but thats been out alot longer so I'm not even going to go there.

As usual, I'm holding out on getting the system until theres at least 4 games I truly want for it.

I haven't really touched my Wii in a long time. After I finished Zelda, I don't really turn it on that much. There is a drought of titles right now. Hopefully that will change soon.

But it has not gotten anywhere near as much playtime as my 360 did in the first 3 months. Although, honestly, I shouldn't really say that because it is not a truly fair comparison. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came out near the end of March last year and I started playing the hell out of it at that time. Plus, with WoW: BC and now the release of The Shivering Isles for Oblivion over XBox Live (both of which are digital crack), I don't have much reason to go back unless a group of friends come over for Wii Sports Bowling (which they do not do often).

EDIT: As for the actual topic on hand, yeah, very unnecessary comment by the MS rep. Felt like I should have thrown that in there somehow.

And while Nintendo's response was that Gamestop said this to try to get a bigger shipment, it may hold some truth as a bunch of Wiis went on sale at all major stores (Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart, etc) here on Sunday morning...April the 1st.
