quite, but asian cinema is the "in" thing at the moment aren't they? Plus he was South Korean so its hardly suprising the finger's being pointed that way, no one likes to blame themselves if you catch my drift, its much easier to blame someone/something else. |

Old Boy was a Korean film. If the guy had been American, they would have found pictures from an American film, and blamed that. Let's say Natural Born Killers.
And I've watched Old Boy. I don't feel compelled to go out and kill people. >.> |

I've not seen the film personally, and I'm not pointing the finger, I'm merely stating what british news rags are trying to make out.
In the 60s and 70s, the problem of teenagers and young adults going off of the rails was blamed upon Rock n' Roll.
In the 80s it was the "video nastie", films such as The Evil Dead, which I believed recieved a ban in the UK that was lifted in the 90s, I need to check the details on that though to be 100% sure.
The 90s it was raves (because of the use of ecstacy and other drugs) and Hip-Hop
the "Noughties" just wouldn't be right if something that todays youth are interested in doesn't get the blame, which is why we see people like Jack Thompson recieve so much publicity, and the publics view is swayed by "respectable" news sources such as britains "Daily Mail" which in itself ignored actual facts and reports from the Police in the so-called "Manhunt" murder a couple of years back, in which the Mail claimed that the murderer had been obsessed with the game, even though it was discovered that he'd never played it, abd that the person discovered to have owned Manhunt was the vicitim, who was 14 I believe, therefore, by British Law, he shouldn't of even owned the game, as it carries a BBFC 18 Certificate, meaning that it can't legally be or purchased by somebody under that age. |

When stuff like this happens, why does everyone always feel compelled to go point the finger at something? Oh noes! It couldn't be that he was just f**ked up in the head!!
The kid snapped because he was picked on or whatever, and couldn't handle it in a positive way...deal with it. |

I'm sorry, but I've played a shitload of Counterstrike, Battlefield, Unreal, etc., plus have a merit badge in Rilfery and Shotgun Shooting, play with Airsoft Guns, taken a firearms safety course and have a FOID Card, and I still get nervous when holding a live firearm.
It's simply that the kid was messed up. Let's see this in Jackie's terms. If he was "trying to go for a high score" then why would he kill himself? If you kill yourself, then the game is over. Everyone I know that goes for a high score doesn't just stop. They keep going until they're stopped. What probably happened was that he was already planning suicide, so why not take a few with him. Or else it was a "Holy Crap, look what I did!" Moment and he killed himself, maybe because he didn't want to get caught, or he had a moment where he felt like he could do anything else but die. The true thing about it is that we won't really know for sure. The only person who could tell us is dead. Now, supposedly he sent a package to NBC, but I've not heard anything else about what he sent them so maybe he did fess up to why he did what he did. I don't know.
Sorry bout the lil rant. I guess what I should say is that it's stupid to blame everything on video games, especially when you can't get your facts right about them. |

And the debate has just taken a turn into the Twilight Zone.
