Saw it yesterday with Ming. I wasn't as impressed as I was with the first two movies, but it wasn't that bad. At times, though, people in the theatre were laughing at the movie, not at the funny parts.
What was with Emo Spidey?? He looked ridiculous. Needless to say, I wasn't that impressed.
Any other thoughts? |

Symbiotes apparently make people emo now ;_;
No, but really. I was really disappointed in their portrayal of Venom. He's supposed to be really scary and aggressive...and he wasn't so much. He turned Peter Parker into an emo. And Eddie was supposed to be a homicidal sociopath, not some whiney "Parker stole my job and my girlfriend and now I need justice!" guy. I feel like they really underplayed Venom, and how scary he was.
And then there was the "emo spidey" scene in the rain.
The movie was entertaining, and there were some parts that were really funny. The acting wasn't bad. My main problem was with the script. There were times that they would underline, bold, and highlight plot elements to make sure you got it. Like when Aunt May was telling Peter that aggression and obsession for vengeance can "take a person over."
There was also a scene at the beginning of the movie where I was totally distracted by the fact that Aunt May was serving Peter tea, and there wasn't any tea in the teapot.
I guess my rating for it would be a 2.2/5. I was pretty disappointed.

There were a bunch of "comic geek" inside jokes, that's what they might have been laughing at. Like the scene where the old man stops Peter on the street in front of the scroll-sign talking about how Spiderman was about to receive the key to the city--that old man was actually Stan Lee, creator of Spiderman.
Also, if you thought it was weird if people laughed when Baker (Sandman) pulled the tshirt out of the drawer--that tshirt is the same one he always wears in the comic. |

The reason Spidey got rid of it in the comics was because it was making him a lot more aggressive, and he nearly killed somebody. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I think they got it pretty close.
Also, Eddie wasn't homicidal. You're thinking of Carnage. The "Parker stole my job and now I need justice!" thing is right from the comics. He basically blamed Spiderman for ruining his life. |

I know that. In the movie it turned Parker into an emo. That's what my complaint is. He slicked his hair over one eye, started wearing eyeliner, and moped around in the rain.

Eddie was pretty crazy. He was also twice as old as Parker, and in the movie he was the same age and Parker beat him out for a job, he didn't ruin his career like he did in the comics. In the comics, Parker really ruined his life (in Eddie's opinion); in the movie, it's much more campy, and Parker didn't ruin his life so much as give him a small setback. I mean, the comic version of Eddie had an established career as a reporter that was thrown to the dogs, and in the movie he was a college kid freelance photographer set up as Parker's rival--he wasn't able to get a job because of Peter. Boo-hoo ;_;
They still majorly underplayed the role. They didn't even call him Venom, it was just Eddie in a suit. |

I thouhgt it was really cool but this is coming from someone who stopped reading Spidey way before Venom and Carnage came along. I did notice the way they never said the name Venom at all and I thought that was dumb siunce they went to so much trouble to make him a major part of the advertising (tho he wasn't that much of the movie). It was like after it was shot some kid said "Wow, Venom!" and the marketing exec said "We gotta push this guy".
I liked it, I thought the action was really cool but having Harry and Spidey team up was something I saw from the first scene. Also, the more I explained it to my girl...the less I liked the movie so I'm gonna stop here. |

I liked it, but I'm in agreement with everyone else I think.
I liked the first 2 a lot better.
The two things that got me...
close to the end I wanted to yell "Welcome to Male Cry Fest 2007!"
Seriously. I understand that you want to portray guys as sensitive... but every single one of them? Come on!
The other thing is that there were SEVERAL parts where I could tell that the people were CG. In the first 2 combined, there were maybe 1 or 2 parts I could tell. This one was much worse. And I'm not talking about Venom or Sandman. I'm talking about MJ. |

That's what I'm talking about. Venom is supposed to be really flippin scary, instead I thought he was about to cry on Spiderman's shoulder. And when Peter had the symbiote, I think he started listening to Dashboard Confessional and 30 Seconds to Mars. XD |

Lol...best part of the movie: Bruce Campbell as the Maiterdee!!
My comments on teh movie: I gotta watch it when im not with 8 of my friends at midnight...WE didn't shut up the whole movie, and we probably ruined it for everyone. yet, everyone was laughing with us...i guess that means we were hitting it on the head. Not that I ALWAYS talk during a movie, but this was a movie with 8 friends who share a common taste in geekdom.
Also, my biggest qualm with Venom lies in the fact that Topher Grace shouldn't have been Eddie...it shoudl have been someone MUCH bigger, since Eddie is a much grander physical character.
I thikn after the second one, though, its hard to top the spidey craze. |
