He works on the failu... ahhh... Zune now, but apparently he was owning up to a bet made a while ago.

The bet was how fast the PSP would get to 10M units worldwide. N'Gai said it would happen faster than the PS2, Allard disagreed.

If Allard won the bet, he would get to shave N'Gai's Dreadlock dew. If N'Gai won, Allard had to make his keynote at E3 wearing a Dread wig.

Allard didn't make an E3 Keynote in 2006 b/c he had already moved to the Zune project. So here we are.

J. Allard Returns with Dreadlocks, Owns Up to Bet
We're serious. Allard admits defeat over PSP sales.

First, a little history. In 2005, Newsweek writer N'Gai Croal and then-Xbox executive J. Allard made a bet about the PSP, contingent on whether the machine could surpass 10 million units faster than PlayStation 2 did. Allard denied the possibility and N'Gai threw down the gauntlet: if PSP eclipsed PS2's race to 10M, Allard could shave N'Gai's dreads, but if not, Allard was required to speak on stage wearing dreads.

Turns out Allard lost that bet, but his transition to the Zune music platform within Microsoft meant he didn't present alongside the rest of Microsoft's executive repertoire during their E3 2006 presentation and N'Gai's bet tumble din the wind. Now, 360 days after the original bet, Allard has finally owned up -- completely.

The picture to the right was taken straight from Microsoft's own bio page for Allard. You can check the image link yourself, though we suspect it won't remain like that for long. "Hats off to Sony for outpacing the PS2 velocity with their PSP. Dreads on for N'Gai for calling it back in 2005. Figured it was only right to include both the dreads and PSP in the photo," Allard says on his bio.

Allard has some serious cajones. The industry would be a better place if more people lightened up a bit.

Well I can't speak for others, but I'm pretty happy with mine.
