Well, first off let me start by saying I have a soft spot in my heart for mech games and big explosions, so I may be a bit biased,
but this game is HOT
H-O-T, notice all of the letters are capitilized. I love this game.
The gameplay is fast, and intense, even the tank based ACs (or NEXTs as they are aperently called in this installment) can move, though they can be a bit clunky if you dont have any boost left. When you build an AC for speed though, DAMN it moves. The reverse joint legs got a major mobility upgrade, they dont feel near as clunky as in AC3, and so did the quad legs. Im not a fan of them, but now I dont cringe at the thought of using them. The quick boost is a hell of alot of fun, and adds an intresting element to the game. the controls are smooth once you get the hang of it. and best of all, there are some realy big freaking guns The music is nice, and the sound of the guns and missles are very well done.
That being said, I do have a few minor gripes,
The PA(primal armor) sheild thing is not my favorite feature, and the fact that the overboost is tied into the PA charge gets on my nerves, especialy since you have to build with PA in mind if you want it to recharge with any speed at all. The missles are DUMB they tend to fly off in every direction and not at the guy your aiming at, it makes for a very preaty scene, but its kinda frustrating when you have to waste 40 missles to take out one minor guy. The only missles worth getting are the ungided spread, if your good at timing them, or the single shot guided missles. There dont seem to be many parts to choose from (as compared to AC3). The ACSIS system (how you build ACs and purchase parts) is usable, but the lack of a separate inventory and store is a minor gripe, though being able to test drive parts before you buy is a major good thing. Frankly some of the explosion animations and graphix are sloppy, just bright white spheres... but these are minor things, and over all I love this game
All in all I would rate this as a 8/10, must buy if your into mech games, but otherwise just a good game
If anyone else has this for the 360, hit me up on live, I love blade matches |

I just watched the review on XPlay and they liked it, but didn't. They said the game is overly easy and short. Is it? Is the online worth it? Game types? Number of Players, Teams? The Dasterdly Bastards(tm) are always looking for new stomping grounds. Either reply here, or hop on a Gears game to tell me, peace.
p.s.

It is preaty easy and short, took me thirty some hours of play to S rank every mission and buy every part (even the stabalizers). not as many parts as in AC3. but as for the multi, its 2 teams, up to 4v4 or FFA up to 8 players. No gametypes other than death match. (bet it would be fun to have a capture the flag match, but meh)
One of the realy cool features is the ability to trade skematics (give realy, as you dont lose them), and images for decals. and im not sure how yet, but i think you can inport image files from your comp.
Like i said, its realy only worth it if you are predisposed to mech games
ps. yes you can rape your kills |
