I've been fighting with this trainwreck of a game for... 2 months now? Considering the slew of bugs and glitches that game with the game, including but not limited to:
-Completely random profile corruption
-Completely random graphical corruption
-Cars that are purely undriveable (the Chrysler ME Four-Twelve wheelspins on 5th gear from a stop!)
-Online portion with as much consistency as a blender
-Sounds that come out of one speaker and not the other
I sometimes wonder why I bought this game knowing it was known for its bugs. Perhaps I was naively hoping the devs would release a patch (they haven't.) Or perhaps I was magnetically attracted to torture, which explains the countless hours I spent on Ragnarok Online, GAIA Online and Battlefield 2142.
In either case, I begin playing. Windows 2000 and TDU don't quite work well together. The game either crashes to desktop instantly after the nagscreens or displays gratuitiously torn-apart textures. It usually takes me three or four attempts at running the game to get it to run properly. But then, one day, out of the blue, the came consistently crashes to desktop. I haven't modified my system in any way. There is absolutely no way to explain just why the game decided to change gears all of a sudden.
...I've got more important stuff to do. I take a break, install Windows XP and go from onboard sound to Sound Blaster X-Fi Audio. So it's a rebranded Audigy, big deal - I just wanna get off the onboard.
Somehow, under Windows XP, TDU runs almost quite nicely.
Then one day my online profile decides to think it's offline. For no reason.
o_O;
I fool around on the forums and someone finally comes up with a way, using a hexadecimal editor, to hack an offline profile to make it online. I fix my profile and go about my merry way.
Then I met what is probably the most incomprehensibly weird bug in the universe. What if I told you profiles freely stepped on each other's toes?
Don't believe me? Check this out. I have one online and one offline profile. I wanna try out some fancy maneuvers without consequences, so I decide to switch to my offline profile. Somehow, as I do this, my offline profile, normally called "test", starts calling itself "Shurikane" and attempts to connect online... o_O;;
I brush off this weird event, go back on my real Shuri profile and resume playing. But, curious, I begin prodding at the glitch to see just what in the name of Satan's ass is going on. After a while, my old offline profile calls itself test again and my real online profile ceases to have a name!!!
The rest is a straight jump into pure chaos:
I gave up after that and restored my backup, cancelling all the fancy crap I made.
If you guys feel too happy and want to stop believing in life for a while, go ahead and take a gander at the TDU Tech Support Forum. It's funny to see players blaming each other for their own profile corruptions. Hell, I even got flamed for saying I'd sell my copy on eBay if I lost all my progress and my backup didn't work. |

360 versions fine, although the handlings a bit stiff and requires you to almost stop at times in the more powerful cars.... I play the 360 version quite a bit actually. |
