Ahh I see. Actually I think the removal of the EE is less of an issue after they showed off how well their software emulation backwards compatibility worked. Everyone was worried when they said it and now, all PS1 games still work and like 1200 PS2 games work.

Actually... The original Xbox NEVER made money. At the time the 360 came out, the Xbox was selling for $150 and still losing money. Not sure about how long Sony was in the Red with the PS2. But the PS3 will be in the red for at least 3 years I think. Mainly b/c I think they are going to drop the price quickly to get to $400 over the next 3 years.

See, that's exactly why I CAN'T bring myself to spend that much on a PC. B/c you buy the top of the line stuff and 2 months later, the item you spent $300 on is now $150. But that's just me. I don't game much on my PC. |

Heh you know I just looked at this topic but was thinking earlier I'd prefer the PS3 without the EE in it. Which is more of a reason to wait. I mean the PSPs emulation of the PSX is getting progressivly better plus it's easier to fix emulation issues in software rather than hardware. Plus with full software emulation adding features via updates is a hell of a lot easier than with hardware.
Oh and there is now a PS2 emulator for the PC that runs a bunch of stuff, I was playing with it last night. Most my box could muster out of it was 10FPS lol. |

It really depends. I mean with all the firmware updates they do to the box, it's possible that they could implement a firmware that will accept both software and hardware emulation.
Code: | if ( ps2Game.hasSoftware() ) {
ps2Game.useSoftware();
}
else {
ps2Game.useHareware();
} |
It would pretty much be that simple.
The big thing about the removal of the engine is the quest for a drop in price. As I said earlier... the system costs $840 to make. Well about $42 of that is the Emotion Engine.
The also have a 65nm Cell chip now that I hear they are trying to implement as soon as possible. Sony knows the Price is high and is doing everything they can to lower it. At least it seems that way to me.
Sticking to my guns here. I really think the price will drop $100 by Christmas. That will help sales a lot. Now... not everyone will get one... of course, but I know if the system was $500, I would have picked one up at launch instead of waiting so long and using my Sony points to get it.

Wow. Man the System Reqs for that must be through the roof. |

Yeah they can bypass it that way, hrm. Hopefully they'll eventually shrink the size of the case with the 65nm technology and the reduced die size will help with heat and power consumption. I wonder if the next set of consols will have have the 45nm tech. |
