I love how you guys call what we call University "School". For us, School finishes at 16, then you have Sixth Form or College depending on what direction you take then Uni, although everything after 16 isn't compulsory.

lol, theres actually two forms of schooling, a two tier (which I did) and three tier (what chixie did and I'm not too sure on the ages for that)

But basically its:

Infant - Juniors / Lower - Middle school (5-11/5-13)
Senior/Upper School (13 - 16)
Sixth Form/ College (16 - 1
University (19+)

Although the last two aren't compulsory so you can do them at any age, i.e. I'm going back to college in September, and Chixie's starting at University in September at 21.

School term generally starts in September and finishes in July with holidays and "half terms" throughout that period too.

"School" for us is a sort of general term for anytime you're in a learning institution. ^^

College/University is the institution you go to -after- High School (which ends at 17/1 and is usually something you gotta pay booku bucks for unless you get good enough grades for scholarships and stuff.

Everything else is fairly similar, though.
Age 1-3 is Daycare which is optional, 3-4 is Pre-K, also optional. 5 is Kindergarten, usually held at an elementary school, and after that you go through 1-5th grade in Elementary school (age 6-10) then usually 6-8 in middle school (10-14) and then 9-12 in High School (14-1

Our school term starts in August or September, and usually runs through May and somewhere around early to mid June, with a huge summer break, and usually a week in the Fall for Thanksgiving (or at least a couple days) a week in the Winter where classes switch up and the first 'semester' ends, and a week in the Spring around March or April sometime.

I -love- learning about other school systems, though. The British one is really neat, and so is Japan's.
