To October. :] October comes from the Latin prefix octo-, of course meaning eight. Now, you wonder, because this is the tenth month of the year in our modern day Gregorian calendar. However, we are silly people from the 21st century that decided to change the calendar and keep the month names. What a mess.

First, we have the Tricycle Daily Dharma quote for the first day of October:
Quote:
The basic precepts are not passive. They can actively express a compassionate heart in our life. Not killing can grow into a reverence for life, a protective caring for all sentient beings who share life with us. Not stealing can become the basis for a wise ecology, honoring the limited resources of the earth and actively seeking ways to live and work that share our blessings worldwide. From this spirit can come a life of natural and healing simplicity. Out of not lying we can develop our voice to speak for compassion, understanding, and justice. Out of nonharming sexuality, our most intimate relations can also become expressions of love, joy, and tenderness. Out of not abusing intoxicants or becoming heedless, we can develop a spirit that seeks to live in the most awake and conscious manner in all circumstances.

At first, precepts are a practice. Then they become a necessity, and finally they become a joy. When our heart is awakened, they spontaneously illuminate our way in the world.

-Jack Kornfield, in A Path with Heart

Next we have some October holidays:

- Thanksgiving (Canada) - Second Monday of October
- National Day (China, People's Republic of) -October 1
- Children's Book Week in (England) - First Week of October
- Health and Sports Day (Japan) - Second Monday of October
- Proclamation of Portuguese Republic (Portugal) - October 5
- Independence day in Croatia-October 8
- Apple Day - October 21
- United Nations Day - October 24
- Independence Day in St. Vincent & the Grenadines - October 27
- Independence Day in Nigeria- October 1
- Independence Day in Turkmenistan - October 27
- Halloween - October 31
- MLB Baseball World Series - Late October

Month-long Observances:

- Filipino American History Month (in United States)
- National Arts & Humanities Month (in United States)
- National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (in United States)
- National Disability Employment Awareness Month (in United States)
- National Sexuality Education Month (in United States)

Also, October is the most common birth month (tied with July) so we'll probably be expecting some birthday threads.

...Yeah, I'm bored, but aren't the leaves pretty?

Interestingly enough, I'm very excited that October (and autumn in general) is here. I'm not sure why, as normally I dislike this season very much. But this year something's different. I can't wait to see the leaves, go apple and pumpkin picking, and do other enjoyable fall activities.

IN GA we had a horrible drought so our Fall is supposed to last like a week.

The leaves will turn almost instantly and fall twice as fast.

Oh well, can't wait for Thanksgiving myself. I loves da turkey!

October 24th is when our company goes into hard freeze, and we don't touch anything (credit card processing company + holiday season) unless smoke comes outta it.

October is my favorite month! The weather changes to a crisp and crinkly. My favorite holiday approaches and I get to celebrate my anniversary! There is a refreshing and comortable air to October and I welcome it with open arms!

As for turkey - we need to plan us some Thanksgiving Gaaz-babuh!

Absolutely not.

For the uninitiated, behold it's greatness:
